CAMBRIDGE — CambridgeSouth Dorchester High’s baseball team celebrated a birthday and a victory Tuesday.

The Vikings sang “Happy Birthday” to starting shortstop Tyler Harding while celebrating the 10-3 win over Kent County. Harding went 2 for 3 with three runs scored and turned two double plays with second baseman Logan Middleton.

The first double play came in the top of the second with runners at the corners and no outs. C-SD pitcher Ryan Cartright induced Wayne Morris to hit a grounder to Middleton who tossed to Harding at second to begin a 4-6-3 double play. Kenny Fowler scored on the play to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.

“Tyler and Logan in the middle are like peanut butter and jelly,” said Vikings head coach Chad Wolfe whose team improved to 4-4 overall, 2-0 North Bayside. “They work hard together. They enjoying turning double plays together.

“That was very, very big early in the game,” Wolfe said of the second-inning double play. “They were able to turn a double play later in the game too, which helped us out big time.”

From there, Cartright cruised through six innings to pick up the victory. He struck out four and allowed two earned runs.

“I’m very proud of him,” Wolfe said. “Today he threw strikes. He didn’t walk anyone until the sixth. We played very clean behind him. He has good stuff. When he throws strikes and we play well behind him, we know we have a good chance to win.”

third, Middleton singled with one out, then stole second. Leadoff hitter Khalik Beasley (2 for 3, three RBIs) launched a Donnie Forgan pitch to deep right for an RBI ground-rule double to tie the score at 1-1. Shamar Young gave the Vikings a 2-1 lead with a single that scored Beasley.

Harding singled to put two on. One out later, Max Presley singled to score Young for a 3-1 lead. Tommy Crane followed with an RBI single to score Harding for a 4-1 lead.

“No one is hotter right now than Khalik Beasley,” Wolfe said. “He has power. He goes the other way. He draws walks. He has a ton of speed. He has been great for us leading off. He got us going today.”

C-SD added three more in the fourth. Middleton and Beasley walked to open the inning. Young then ripped a two-rule single to center. Harding followed with an RBI fielder’s choice groundout to plate Young for a 7-1 lead.

“That is what we have been waiting for — timely hits,” Wolfe said. “Today, the guys stepped up — all up and down order — and had some big, big, clutch hits for us.”

Beasley’s two-run single in the fifth bumped the lead to 9-1.

Fowler drove in a run for the Trojans (2-6, 0-2) with an RBI single in the sixth to make the score 9-2. Harding scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth to increase CSD’s lead to 10-2. Clint Meekins finished the game on the mound for the Vikings. He allowed a run on a walk.
