Saathoff wins Premier Showcase
DENTON — Caroline Saathoff, of Denton, won this year’s Premier Showmanship competition at the Caroline-Dorchester County Fair.
Held Friday, Aug. 3, the event brings together the grand champion showman winners from the fair’s four livestock shows — sheep, goats, beef and swine — to compete for premiere showman.
Started in 1994, the competition is an incentive for participants to learn showmanship for all species.
Saathoff, the winner of this year’s beef and swine shows, competed against Cheyenne Wells, of Denton, the winner of this year’s sheep show, and Jake Faass, of Denton, the winner of this year’s goat show.
Konnar Miller, of Smithsburg, judged the competition, awarding points to each competitor as they all showed sheep, cattle, goats and pigs.
Saathoff, 16, said this was her fourth year competing in the Premier Showmanship event and her first win.
Saathoff said she shows pigs and cattle, so it was a bit stressful to have to show the goats and sheep, especially when the animals did not want to cooperate.
“This means so much,” said Saathoff, who has participated in 4-H since the third grade. “I’ve been wanting this for a long time.”
