Free diabetes classes offered in Cambridge
CAMBRIDGE — University of Maryland Shore Regional Health will offer a threesession class, “Diabetes and You,” on Tuesdays, Jan. 15, 22 and 29, at UM Shore Medical Center at Dorchester, 300 Byrn Ave., Cambridge.
Taught by diabetes nurse educator Wynne Aroom, the class is free and open to the public. It provides medical information and strategies to help patients manage their diabetes for optimal wellness. The class meets from 6 to 8 p.m. in the board room on the main floor of the hospital,
“Diabetes is ver y prevalent in our Shore communities, but many patients don’t realize there is much they can do to manage the disease in a way that helps them avoid serious complications that can interfere with their independence and overall wellbeing,” Aroom said.
“This class provides important information that patients need to understand how diabetes can affect their health and simple strategies to monitor and manage their symptoms,” Aroom said.
Aroom also leads a free, monthly diabetes support group that meets at 5:30 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month in the hospital board room. Both the support group and the class are open to partners and caregivers as well as patients.
