Matilda C. Degges
TAYLORS ISLAND — Matilda “Tillie” C. Degges, 86, of Taylors Island died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, at her residence.
Born Nov. 4, 1932, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Uzarowski and Mary Anna Wojkowski Uzarowski.
She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church and Taylors Island Volunteer Fire Company.
She is survived by children, Harry “Wally” D. Johnson and wife Debbi of Westminster, Kenneth R. Johnson and wife Wendy of New Hampshire, Charles S. “Sonny” Degges Jr. and his companion Denise of Taylors Island, and Peggy Ward and husband Michael of Taylors island; eight grandchildren, Scott Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Kaitlyn Johnson, Nicholas Bound, Carl Ward, Jr., Hunter Degges and Dylan Degges; two greatgrandchildren, Brady Johnson and Hannah Johnson; a sister, Anna Burke of Pasadena.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles S. “Sonny” Degges Sr., on Feb. 18, 2014; and her siblings, Jenny Roe, John Uzarowski, Mary Rostkowski, Thomas Uzarowski, Gertrude Balewski and Phyllis Dehne.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Secretary, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the mass. Rev. Stephen Lonek and Rev. Michael Casari will concelebrate. Interment will follow in the church cemeter y.
