Dr. Munroe was a Bahamian Evangelical Christian evangelist and ordained Pentecostal minister who founded and led the Bahamas Faith Ministries International (BFMI) and Myles Munroe International (MMI).

The stars all align in their flashy suits and sparkly dresses hoping to receive a trophy for their work over the past year during what is known as “Awards Season”. But, when did this all start? And who can really remember what talent is nominated at which award show? No fear! Your guide to award season and a little history is here!

From November to February, Hollywood pauses to recognize the greatest actors, writers, producers, and designers in the game. It all kicks off with the Gotham Awards held in New York City to honor independent filmmakers. Smaller ceremonies, like this one, have a deep history with very niche audiences that are captivated by huge talent. The more well known shows really start in the beginning of the new year. Viewers gather around the TV to see who the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will deem as the greats of film and television during the Golden Globes. The celebs hit the red carpet for the first time and reporters get to start speculating who will be the “It” designer and trendsetter for the next several weeks.

Those who failed in the fashion department during the Golden Globes have a chance to redeem themselves during ceremonies like The Writers, Producers, and Screen Actors Guilds Awards. These ceremonies honor all categories from radio to small films to hit television programs.

The excitement and suspense all culminates at the most prestigious ceremony of them all, “The Academy Awards.” Dating back to 1929, The Academy Awards honored those in the world of cinematography and is the oldest award show of its kind. You may know it simply as “The Oscars” which is actually a nickname for the gold statue given to the winners of the night. Greats like Halle Berry, Denzel Washington, Diane Keaton, and Lupita Nyong’o all have received this great honor.

Whether it’s the gowns, the tuxedos, the acceptance speeches, the writers, the producers, the directors, the actors, or the hosts, there is so much to get excited about during awards season! Look out for your favorite stars and see what awards they bring home this year! DT
