TEEN CHEF JEREMIAH JAMES
is a 13 year old who loves Lacrosse and is already moving up the food chain. He is a Baltimore chef who has graced the media and several educational platforms. Not only has he been on channel 11 news twice, he has showcased his recipes on channel 2 news.
At 5 years old, he had a passion to cook. His grandfather inspired him with his minced barbecue. Jeremiah says it has so much flavor and it made the perfect meal. His mom also inspired him. Often times, he assisted her during the holidays by cutting up the onions, green peppers, etc.
Chef Jeremiah wows his audience with his special recipe, “Surprise Grits.” He says that he loves cooking; but he had to overcome the dream killer mentality. Jeremiah used to think that he wasn’t going to have fun as a chef and felt awkward because most of his friends played sports while he preferred to be in the kitchen creating new and exciting recipes. However, he was able to overcome this obstacle by his mentor, Selina Scipio who was a great inspiration to him by helping him embrace his talent and differentness. Moreover; it was when he saw that his food demonstrations captivated the audience by the look on their faces, he was excited about his talent and everything that came along with it.
Jeremiah has received several awards and showcased his recipes for: * The Empowerment Temple Health and Wellness Expo And Zumba-Thon. * The 2nd Annual Brassica Fest. * He was awarded The Joe Mann’s Black Wall Street Awards for Youth —
(An award that celebrates and affirms our youth for their excellence in school, community and entrepreneurship). * He was honored for Young Entrepreneurship at The Young Boss’s Blueprint held on December 6, 2014.
Chef Jeremiah is a student at The Mount Washington School. He is in The International Baccalaureate Program which helps to produce free and critical thinkers while they exceed academically. He is a leader for Media8 (A peer mediation program set in a private and confidential open forum for students to express their feelings and solve their issues).
What’s up and coming: Jeremiah is working on a new book for ages 8-13. The book will feature his unique recipes, which are quick meals that kids can make by themselves. Jeremiah shared that he will be going to Spain in June/2015 ( for 12 days) to expose him to the culture and cuisine

I can’t breathe. can’t breathe in a society that doesn’t recognize me as equal to my white counterparts. I can’t live in a society where my brothers and sisters are being murdered, tortured, and ridiculed with no justice. To exist in a country where the 3/5s law towards blacks still exists, except it’s not written on paper. It’s written through our oppression and the lack of justice our legal justice system fails to give us time and time again.
