Barn Night Brings Out Fans At Wash­ing­ton In­ter­na­tional

At­tend the wash­ing­ton in­ter­na­tional horse show (wihs thurs­day evening ses­sion Oct. 25 and you’ll see clus­ters of fans fill­ing the stands all hoist­ing ban­ners and dressed in a theme cheer­ing on their fa­vorite rid­ers as a group. it’s Barn night!

pre­sented by The Equiery united metro golf Cart the Clothes horse Charles Owen the loft at mead­ow­brook us eques­trian and Barn­man­ager Barn night be­gins at 6:S0 p.m. it com­bines the ex­cit­ing in-ring ac­tion of the D40L000 wel­come stake the DS5L000 in­ter­na­tional Jumper Ac­cu­mu­la­tor Class with a Best Cos­tume award and the wihs shet­land pony steeple­chase Cham­pi­onship se­ries pre­sented by Charles Owen with fun ac­tiv­i­ties like a scav­enger hunt an au­to­graph sign­ing a model horse jump sta­tion and a col­or­ing sta­tion.

Barn night has quickly be­come a fa­vorite night of fun and com­pe­ti­tion at wihs as groups of horse-lovers in­clud­ing many rep­re­sent­ing dif­fer­ent lo­cal barns not only en­joy fun ac­tiv­i­ties and watch ex­cit­ing com­pe­ti­tion but also com­pete for cov­eted prizes in cat­e­gories such as largest group group spirit group ban­ner and group video. lo­cal young rid­ers barn-mates and horse-lovers have re­ally caught the Barn night fever and dive whole-heart­edly into rep­re­sent­ing their groups with fun out­fits and loud cheers. the video con­test in which groups or in­di­vid­u­als cre­ate and sub­mit a short video based on a theme an­nounced by wihs has be­come a hotly con­tested chal­lenge in part be­cause the win­ners’ prize is a clinic with a top eques­trian. past clin­i­cians for win­ners have in­cluded Olympic stars such as dres­sage rider laura graves even­ter will Cole­man and show jumper peter wylde. the group video con­test has rid­ers lip-sync­ing and danc­ing in their barn aisles in the quest to win best video. look out for cov­er­age of laura graves’ clinic to come in the no­vem­ber is­sue of Dres­sage To­day.

The win­ners of the 2017 Wash­ing­ton In­ter­na­tional Horse Show Barn Night won a clinic with Olympian Laura Graves fo­cused on “Dres­sage for Jump­ing.” The clinic took place at Ohana Eques­trian Pre­serve in Aldie, Vir­ginia, in Au­gust.
