Predator Prevention, Not Eradication
the best policy for dealing with predators is averting attacks through proper fencing, safe nighttime housing, habitat modification and the use of guardian animals. Many duck predators are protected under state and federal laws that either entirely prohibit the killing of certain animals, such as owls and hawks, or limit killing to permit holders or set seasons.
Particularly problematic animals can often be dealt with by live trapping and relocation. the elimination of predator populations around the property might solve the immediate threat but can cause unforeseen issues later. for instance, populations of natural prey animals such as rodents or rabbits might explode, creating potential damage to crops, infestations on the farm, and a menu for different local predators.
