No $100M bailout for transit systems
Re: “Labor groups say they need $100M to prevent layoffs” (Page B1, Nov. 27):
Pardon me if I don’t shed a tear for BART employees who are among the highestpaid employees in the country, with gold-plated salary and benefits packages far and above what the rest of us make, and other transit workers who fear impending layoffs because the stimulus is running out. And now they want a bailout of funds meant for road and bridge repair?
We should not be bailing out transit systems that are running virtually empty. I see large AC Transit buses running up and down Hayward streets that are virtually empty.
The reason the labor unions want another bailout is because workers who are laid off or take retirement packages aren’t contributing to the wealthy transit unions. Follow the money.
It is as simple as that. We don’t need your transit system as we are working from home now. — L Renea Turner Hayward
