LIVERMORE >> Three people, two of them teenagers under the age of 18, died late Monday after their car collided with a semi-truck, police said.

The crash happened in the 5600 block of Las Positas Road at about 10:30 p.m., police spokesman Sgt. Steve Goard said. Details of how the crash unfolded were not released. All three people were in a four- door sedan, Goard said.

The semi- truck driver was the only person in the truck and was not injured.

Authorities did not immediately identify the three who died, but Superintendent Kelly Bowers of the Livermore Valley Unified School District said in a letter to the community that two were brothers and the third also was a boy.

One of the teens attended Livermore High School and the other Del Valle Continuation High. The third victim, who police said was a young adult, was a Del Valle alumnus and the brother of one of the other two, according to

Bowers.

“At this time of year when we take time to celebrate, appreciate and cherish our family and friendships, it is particularly somber that we instead acknowledge such a devastating loss to our schools and communities,” Bowers wrote. “This news shocks and saddens us and serves as a reminder that life is precious.”

The district will use a crisis team to provide grief and trauma counseling for students and staff.

Two of the victims died at the scene, and the third died at the hospital after being taken there in an ambulance.

That stretch of Las Positas is a divided four-lane thoroughfare in a light industrial area. The speed limit is 35 mph.

Police are investigating and have not determined what caused the crash, Goard said.

Those with information can call Sgt. Justin Lash at 925-371- 4857.

The accident occurred just short of the anniversary of a Dec. 25, 2019, crash that killed three teenage boys 10 miles away, near Pleasanton. The three were 16- year- old Dublin High School students; two were twin brothers.
