A 26-year-old man was found shot to death early Monday on an avenue across from the Buchanan Airport, police said.

In a statement released late Monday morning, Concord police said a person driving on Concord Avenue reported a man down in the 1100 block of the roadway just after midnight. The scene is near Meridian Park Boulevard, and about a tenth of a mile across the street from the airport.

Police said the man had been shot more than once. He was pronounced dead by authorities at the scene. Authorities did not identify him Tuesday morning.

The shooting is the second homicide being investigated by Concord police in 2021. The first involved a Concord man who was attacked by an axe in the city in January. He died from his injuries Feb. 9.

According to one police source who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to comment, a witness described a series of shots while the victim was in a small shopping center.

Police said witnesses also described a dark-colored SUV that may have been involved.

There were three homicides in Concord in 2020.

Two men robbed an Orinda resident at gunpoint in a home invasion Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Both got away following the attack, which happened at about 2:53 p.m. on Don Gabriel Way. According to a statement from the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office, the two suspects confronted the resident, and one of them was armed with a gun.

The resident complied with their demands, and they took unspecified valuables and fled, sheriff’s office spokesman Jimmy Lee said. The resident wasn’t injured.

Authorities used police dogs, a helicopter and drone to find the two men but were unable to do so.

The two suspects made their getaway in a silver Mercedes Benz, according to Lee. One of the men wore a green florescent construction vest, a black-colored hooded jacket with a red stripe, black pants and white shoes, he said. The other had a baby-blue hooded jacket, black pants and black-and-white shoes.
