A beautiful life very well lived. Bay Area native Jeffrey Allen Goodstein, 58, of Studio City, CA passed away peacefully on November 24, 2020 surrounded by family and loved ones after a valiant 4 year battle with cancer.

Jeffrey was born to Ronald and Bonnie (Weiner) Goodstein on April 23, 1962 in Oakland, CA, the eldest of two sons. He attended Grass Valley Elementary School and later San Leandro High School, where at the age of 13 he became actively involved in both baseball and Pop Warner Football. Football would eventually take precedence after being selected to play the position of Defensive Guard for the San Leandro Crusaders. The family not long after relocated to Walnut Creek where Jeffrey continued his education at Northgate High School and played Defensive Tackle for the Northgate Broncos football team. Developing a true love for athletics at an early age he went on to become an avid tennis player, water skier, boxer, and martial arts expert.

In 1978, at just 16 years of age, Jeffrey was introduced to a gentleman by the name of Mr. Robert McClure who was Entertainment Director at Harrah’s Resort in South Lake Tahoe. The meeting, which would prove fortuitous for Jeffrey, led the way to a prestigious 30 year career as a Producer/Director of live stage events originating in the showrooms of Nevada. With an exquisite attention to detail and exceptional ability to create magical moments Jeffrey would personally impact the careers of such notable artists as Wayne Newton, Engelbert Humperdinck, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Stevie Wonder, and Glen Campbell, with whom he shared not only a lifelong friendship, along with a natural ability for playing rhythm guitar, but was featured on Campbell’s 1984 ballad, “Tennessee” as backing vocalist. Delighting audiences far and wide Jeffrey created unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime.

Between 1980 and 1985 Jeffrey owned and operated the very successful Boot Hill Western Fashions, a retail business which specialized in men’s and women’s cowboy boots and western wear with 3 locations in and around the Bay Area. During this time he also attended Columbia School of Broadcasting where he earned an FCC Broadcasting and Radio/TV License with Voiceover Credentials. Following graduation from Columbia in 1986 he became a guest personality for a morning show airing on KRAK Radio 1140 AM in Sacramento as well as voicing over 200 radio and television commercials.

In 1993 Jeffrey found himself in unchartered territory when he was asked to step into the role as President of Quality Loan Service Corporation, a foreclosure trustee in Santa Ana, CA. The request came from a dear friend heading the company at the time who had become ill. Putting his entertainment career on hold Jeffrey singlehandedly taught himself the business and within a year’s time established Quality as one of the nation’s industry leaders in trustee sales, a role that it enjoys to this day. It was there that he would meet his future wife, Christine. In 1995 Jeffrey was recruited by GMAC Mortgage Corporation in Mission Hills, CA. While there his professional path crossed with that of Federal Mortgage Association giants Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac. This meeting would result in Jeffrey playing a pivotal role in the historic 1996 redefining of guidelines used to determine access to mortgage credit for lower income families in underserved areas. The new guidelines would go on to allow such families a greater opportunity to become first time homeowners by loosening mortgage restrictions on loans they otherwise would be unable to qualify for.

With a true passion for charity Jeffrey devoted much of his life to producing events for such notable nonprofit organizations as the Muscular Dystrophy Association of America and the Los Angeles Chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research, dedicating over 10 years to the “Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure” held annually in March at Dodger Stadium. Between 2000 and 2002, while operating the Reference Playback Suite he created at CBS Studio Center in Studio City, CA, Jeffrey produced the entertainment for the annual “CBS July 4th Spectacular” benefiting the Olive Crest Foundation of Southern California for at-risk and abused children. In 2003 Jeffrey joined forces with Honda North America to produce and direct the US and Canadian Tour that would introduce the company’s 4 foot humanoid robot known as ASIMO. Created in 2000, ASIMO (Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility) was designed to explore the potential for interaction between humans and robots especially as it would relate to the assistance of individuals with special needs.

Jeffrey lived his life by one simple, yet very important rule, “You help others because you can.” He will live on forever in our hearts as we remember the smile that could light up a room, the sense of humor that could bring you to your knees with laughter, and the heart that was as deep as the deepest of oceans.

Jeffrey is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Christine Ann (Jelinek); two children, Jesse, 33, and Elsie, 30, brother, Robert; mother, Bonnie, and several adoring cousins and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald and four wonderful canine companions.

Funeral and Interment services were held at 11:00am on December 4, 2020 at Oakmont Memorial Park & Mortuary in Lafayette, CA.

With sincere gratitude those wishing to make a memorial donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital may do so at stjude.org.
