Seven shot in four incidents early Saturday

- By Harry Harris

Seven people, including four wounded in a gathering near Lake Merritt, were wounded in Oakland shootings that happened less than three hours apart early Saturday, authorities said.

Four of the injured — a 21-yearold woman from Vacaville, a 22-year-old man from Tracy, and two San Francisco men aged 23 and 21 — were shot about 3:20 a.m. in the 1400 block of Lakeshore Avenue.

Authorities said they were part of a gathering of at least a dozen people who were socializing outside when at least one person and possibly more began shooting, police said. Some parked vehicles and some apartment buildings also were struck by bullets.

All four were taken to different hospitals. The woman was in critical condition and the three men were in stable condition, policesaid.

Police are trying to determine a motive for the shooting and whether the people shot were the intended targets. No arrests have been made.

Police recovered numerous shell casings on the street, which was blocked off for several hours while police investigated.

That wasn’t the only violence early Saturday. Less than 15 minutes earlier, at about 3:08 a.m., a 28-yearold man was shot near 17th Street and Broadway in the Uptown area. He got his own ride to a hospital and was in stable condition.

The man told police he was eating some food when he heard a gunshot and saw he had been hit in the leg. He said he did not see who shot him and does not know why he was shot. No arrests have been made.

About 1:17 a.m. a man was shot multiple times in the 5800 block of Howell Street in North Oakland. He was taken to a hospital and was in stable condition.

Authorities said the man was uncooperative with officers and police are trying to determine a motive for the shooting and identify a suspect.

About 12:30 a.m. a 30-year-old man was shot multiple times in the 2600 block of East 27th Street in

East Oakland. He was in stable condition.

Authorities said the man was shot after getting into a dispute with another man who left before police arrived. Police have not yet said what the dispute was about and no arrests have been made.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $20,000 in reward money in the Lakeshore Avenue shooting and up to $5,000 in the other shootings for information leading to the arrests of the suspects. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
