The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced its class of 2021 on Wednesday. And organizers are calling it “the most diverse list of Inductees in the history of the organization,” according to a news release.

The 2021 inductees are hip-hop legend Jay-Z, altrock titans Foo Fighters, New Wave pioneers the Go-Go’s, superstar singersongwriter Carole King, music maverick Todd Rundgren and R&B great Tina Turner.

Those six acts — who are being inducted via the Hall’s performer category — will be honored when the 36th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony takes place on Oct. 30 at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland.

The presentation will be simulcast on SiriusXM’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Radio channel 310, starting at 5 p.m. PST. As per usual, the Induction Ceremony will also later be shown on HBO.

The Hall is also recognizing hip-hop icon LL Cool J, incredibly accomplished vocalist-keyboardist Billy Preston and revered Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Randy Rhodes with the Clarence Avant Musical Excellence Awards. Electronic-music pioneers Kraftwerk, acclaimed souljazz poet Gil Scott Heron and Delta blues great Charley Patton will be honored with Early Influence Awards.

Many will look at the list of performer inductees and probably be surprised that it’s taken this long for Turner and King to get into the Hall. But, actually, they have both been in the Rock Hall for decades — just not as solo artists. King was inducted in 1990, in a nonperformer category, as part of the songwriting team with Gerry Goffin. One year later, Turner got in as a duo with Ike Turner. King and Turner become the second and third female artists to be twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, following Stevie Nicks, who is enshrined as both a solo artist and a member of Fleetwood Mac.

Jay-Z, who ranks as one of the most successful and influential artists of all time, is being inducted in his first year of eligibility — which occurs 25 years after the release of an act’s first record.
