Teacher charged with sexual assault
Suspect arrested last month, placed on leave; now-adult victim was fifth grader at the time
FREMONT >> The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has charged a school teacher with sexual assault of a former fifth grader, and authorities are asking other possible assault victims to come forward.
Police said detectives worked to charge Reynaldo Lorenzana, 63, a Fremont Unified School District teacher who worked at Forest Park and Chadbourne elementary schools, after an adult victim came forward and said she had been assaulted. Lorenzana since has been placed on administrative leave.
Two other victims came forward separately, but their cases happened outside a statute of limitations for prosecution. However, the victims will get a chance to testify in the current case, police said.
Those victims told police they were assaulted at school or in tutoring classes. Lorenzana had worked for a private tutoring company from 2010 to 2012, police said.
After he was charged April 13 with a single count of a felony lewd act against a child and arraigned in court April 26, Lorenzana was booked into jail for identification purposes late last week. He attended a bail hearing Monday and faces a plea hearing May 24, police said.
Anyone who may have been a victim is encouraged to contact Fremont police Detective Tony Holguin at aholguin@fremont.gov or call 510-790-6900, or may share information or tips atfremontpolice.gov/TIP.
