Authorities arrest three on suspicion of robberies
Several weapons are found during a warrant search
NEWARK >> Two men and a juvenile were in county jail after simultaneous warrant services last week ended in their arrests on suspicion of multiple charges connected to at least a pair of robberies last summer, authorities said.
According to a statement Monday night, Newark police investigators working a pair of armed convenience-store robberies involving handguns on Aug. 17. City records show officers responded to one armed robbery at 11:47 p.m. in the 5700 block of Thornton Boulevard, followed moments later by another in the 39600 block of Cedar Boulevard.
After investigators believed the suspects could be linked to other Bay Area robberies, they sought and obtained search warrants for addresses in Alameda, Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.
During those searches around 6 a.m. last Thursday, two 19-year-old men in Oakland and San Mateo and a juvenile were each separately arrested. The searches also yielded three handguns, a stolen rifle, high-capacity magazines and many rounds of ammunition, police said.
The trio were booked into county jail and juvenile hall on suspicion of robbery, possession of an unserialized firearm (or “ghost gun”), being a felon in possession of a firearm, violation of probation, commission of a felony while on bail, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of stolen property and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Both men face arraignment Tuesday at Dublin’s East County Hall of Justice, according to county records check Monday night. Police declined to share any information about the juvenile.
