USC stays undefeated with a win in Pullman

Chevez Goodwin sank a layup and a free throw with 16 seconds left to lift undefeated No. 20 USC to a 63-61 victory over Washington State on Saturday in Pullman, Wash.

Goodwin led USC (8-0, 2-0 Pac-12) with 14 points and added five rebounds. Drew Peterson scored 13 points and Max Agbonkpolo scored nine points and had a key block for the Trojans with 6 seconds left.

Michael Flowers scored 13 points to lead Washington State (6-2, 1-1). Noah Williams finished with 12 points, but missed two field-goal attempts in the closing seconds.

NO. 6 VILLANOVA 81, SAINT JOSEPH’S 52>> Collin Gillespie scored 23 points to lead the Wildcats (6-2) over visiting St. Joseph’s (44). Justin Moore added 16 points and Eric Dixon had 12 for Villanova, which won its 10th straight in a series dating to 1921 between the Big Five rivals that are separated by just 7 miles.

NO. 4 BAYLOR 99, ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 54>> LJ Cryer led five scorers in double figures with his 20 points, and the Bears (8-0) beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-9) in Waco, Texas.

NO. 10 ARKANSAS 93, LITTLE ROCK 78>> Au’Diese Toney scored 18 points and JD Notae had 15 to push the Razorbacks (8-0) past visiting Little Rock (4-5).

NO. 12 BYU 74, MISSOURI STATE 68>> Alex Barcello scored 21 points, Te’Jon Lucas added 17 and the Cougars (7-1) pulled away in the final 90 seconds to defeat the Bears (4-4) in Springfiel­d, Mo.

NO. 13 TENNESSEE 69, COLORADO 54>> Freshman Kennedy Chandler scored 16 of his season-high 28 points in the first half and Volunteers (6-1) pulled away from the host Buffaloes (6-3). Evan Battey had 12 points and Tristan Da Silva scored 11 for Colorado.

NO. 17 UCONN 88, GRAMBLING STATE 59>> R.J. Cole scored 18 points to help the Huskies (8-1), who were playing without two injured starters, rout Grambling State (3-6) in Storrs, Conn. Freshman Jordan Hawkins added 15 points for the Huskies, who are off to the program’s best start since going 9-0 to open the 2013-14 season.

MISSISSIPP­I 67, NO. 18 MEMPHIS 63>>Jarkel Joyner scored 20 points and the Rebels (6-2) converted 10 of 11 free throws in the final four minutes to defeat the visiting Tigers (5-3), who have lost three straight.

NO. 21 AUBURN 86, YALE 64>>K.D. Johnson scored 19 points, Jabari Smith added 17 points and seven rebounds and the Tigers (7-1) blew past visiting Yale (5-5). The win marked the fifth straight game of double-digit points for Smith, a 6-foot10 freshman forward who is widely projected to be an early selection in the 2022 NBA draft.

NO. 22 MICHIGAN STATE 81, TOLEDO 68>> Max Christie had 14 points, Gabe Brown scored 12 and the Spartans (7-2) built a big lead early and cruised past visiting Toledo (6-2).

NO. 23 WISCONSIN 89, MARQUETTE 76>>Johnny Davis scored 25 points to lead four Wisconsin scorers in double figures as the Badgers (7-1) downed visiting in-state rival Marquette (7-2). Brad Davison had 20 points for the Badgers.

NO. 24 MICHIGAN 72, SAN DIEGO STATE 58>>Hunter Dickinson had 23 points and 14 rebounds, freshman Caleb Houstan scored a season-high 17 points and the Wolverines (5-3) beat the visiting Aztecs (5-3). SDSU was led by Matt Bradley, who scored 22 points.

NO. 25 SETON HALL 113, NYACK 67>>Seton Hall (7-1) had a trio come off the bench and combine for 66 points, leading the host Pirates over Division II Nyack (2-5).
