A Vallejo man died Saturday after being shot more than once in Richmond, police said.

Officers found the man down when they arrived to the 500 block of Duboce Avenue in North Richmond after receiving 911 calls around 1:30 p.m., Richmond police Sgt. Aaron Pomeroy said. He declined to state the nature of the shooting.

The man died at the scene despite life-saving efforts by officers and medics, Pomeroy said. He was later identified as Stephen

Espadron, 38.

Police have not identified any suspects.

Pomeroy said, however, that investigators were following leads: “That's obviously a good thing,” he said. “We're also looking for folks who may have information or any video surveillance there may be of the area.”

The homicide is the first this year in the city of Richmond. Police investigated 18 homicides within city limits last year. The California Highway Patrol also investigated a homicide within city limits in 2021 that happened on the freeway.
