The Bottom Line: What is a Tucson? A Tucson is a compact SUV built and sold by Hyundai. Hyundai Motor Company was established in 1967, and is the auto sales leader in the Korean domestic market, and exports vehicles to 190 countries worldwide. Hyundai Motor Co. operates the world’s largest integrated automobile manufacturing facility in Ulsan, located on Korea’s southeast coast.

Hyundai owns 33.88 percent of Kia Corporation, and also fully owns two marques including its luxury cars subsidiary, Genesis Motor, and an electric vehicle sub brand, Ioniq. Hyundai scored a 95.7% on the 2019 WhatCar reliability survey, and is again ranked as a top 10 most reliable global automaker.

This week Hyundai sent me a 2022 Tucson Limited Hybrid AWD SUV to test drive and review. The base price for this Hybrid Limited model is $37,350. The options on the test SUV are: a set of carpeted floor mats for $195. The window sticker MSRP manufacturer’s suggested retail price, including the $1,225 destination charge, is: $38,770.

After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealers fees, the total out the door and in your garage purchase price came to: $43,616. This puts the cost way below the $46K average vehicle transaction price, and the Tucson is rated as a best buy in the compact SUV class. Plus this model is a Hybrid Limited edition with a lot of options.

To start with it gets great gas mileage for a midsize AWD SUV. It’s rated at 37 MPG city, 36 MPG highway, with a combined average of 37 MPG overall. The greenhouse gas rating is an 8, and the smog rating is a 7, both out of 10. Great gas mileage, good emission numbers, and a best in class price, make this Tucson SUV a better buy.

The 2022 compact SUV market is loaded with 15 competitors with

names we all know, like: the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Subaru Forester, Jeep Wrangler, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape, Kia Sportage, Nissan Rogue, Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain, Volkswagen Tiguan, Jeep Cherokee, Ford Bronco, Ford Bronco Sport and the Hyundai Tucson. This class is the largest single SUV category with around a million SUVs sold each year.

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid stands tall in this class with a 1.6L liter turbocharged 4 cylinder hybrid engine that pairs the gas ICE internal combustion engine, with a 60 HP electric motor, for a total of 226 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Then power is sent to a 6 speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, routed to an AWD all wheel drive system, with drive mode select. Plus it has an electronic shift by wire, and an electric parking brake. These features all add up to get the most miles per gallon possible.

To make this SUV even easier to live with Hyundai has developed 8 features that are controlled thru a new MyHyundai App from your smart device. After setting up your account with your VIN number, username,

password and pin number you will be able to:

access remote start with climate control and heated and ventilated seats, remote lock and unlock, remote profile management, POI points of interest search, access vehicle status and fuel level, car finder locator, monthly report, and stolen vehicle recovery mode.

With this model nearly everything is in the base $37,350 price. On the window sticker it lists over 60 options, accessories and features that are included on this Hybrid Limited model. Add in the carpeted floor mats, and the destination charge, to get to the MSRP price of only $38,770.

The lists include all the items that you want in an upscale SUV. Like power heated and ventilated front leather seats, heated leather rear seats, a heated steering wheel, heated side mirrors with turn signals, a power panoramic moonroof, 19” alloy wheels, a hands free power rear liftgate with auto open, rain sensing windshield wipers, a tilt and telescopic steering wheel with audio, cruise and phone controls, smart cruise control with stop and go, a Bose premium audio system with SiriusXM radio, Blue Link connected services, and Blue Link remote start for 3 years with complimentary services.

When you’re ready to buy a new compact SUV, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson Limited Hybrid should be on your ride and drive list, as it’s one of the best priced compact SUVs for sale today. Call, click or visit your local Hyundai dealer for a test drive, and a Bottom Line price review, on the Tucson SUV. And remember that the base price for a new Tucson starts at only $24,950.
