MORAGA >> Three Oakland carjacking suspects — two boys aged 15 and one aged 16 — were arrested here Monday following a high speed pursuit of the stolen vehicle, police said.

Two pistols thrown from the vehicle during the chase were recovered, police said.

The Toyota Prius the suspects were in, which was taken during an armed carjacking in Oakland last week, was spotted by Moraga police officers just before 4 p.m. driving on Moraga Road, authorities said

The driver did not stop for the officers, who in turn pursued the vehicle, according to police. When the vehicle reached Camino Pablo and Shuey Drive, the three occupants got out and ran, but they were all eventually detained, according to police.

During the chase, one pistol was thrown from the vehicle near Campolindo High School, and the second gun on Moraga Road, police said. Both were recovered.

Moraga Chief of Police Jon King said Tuesday the pursuit reached speeds of almost 70 mph and at one point the Toyota hit a parked vehicle.

“There was absolute disregard for anyone else on the road,” King said.

All of the suspects are from Oakland, police said. Two were released to their parents and one of the 15-year-olds was booked at Juvenile Hall.

Ground units were assisted by helicopters from both the Alameda County Sheriff's Office and East Bay Regional Park District.

King also praised Moraga residents for providing police information about where the guns were disposed of and the routes of the fleeing suspects once they exited the Toyota.
