-

Jack Skahan scored his first MLS goal in stoppage time to give the San Jose Earthquakes a 2-2 tie at Toronto FC on Saturday night.

Skahan beat goalkeeper Quentin Westberg in the 92nd minute after an attempted clearance by Ifunanyachi Achara sent it back into the penalty box.

Jeremy Ebobisse opened the scoring for San Jose (4-7-7) in the 26th minute with his 10th goal of the season.

Deandre Kerr and Jonathan Osorio scored for Toronto (5-10-4) . Kerr tied it in the 71st, and Osorio gave the Reds the lead four minutes later.

STARS FOCUSED ON GRINER >> Sue Bird and Sylvia Fowles are playing in the WNBA All-Star Game for the last time. Candace Parker and Kahleah Copper are looking for some bragging rights. Some of the league's biggest stars get to try for a 4-point shot.

And everyone is thinking about one person: Brittney Griner.

Griner's continued detention in Russia is front and center as the WNBA holds one of its marquee events in Chicago for the first time. Bird and the rest of the All-Stars wore T-shirts with Griner's name and No. 42 for practice Saturday, and the league also plans to continue its push for Griner's release during Sunday's game.

“I think for all of us, we just want to always keep BG's name at the forefront in everything we do,” Bird said. “Yeah, every now and then we'll answer questions about All-Star and talk about the basketball, but you're going to see her name on the back of all of our shirts, and so like I said, it doesn't really shift. We want it to always be there.”

Griner is an honorary starter for her eighth All-Star selection. It's No. 13 for Bird and No. 8 for Fowles, two pillars of the WNBA who plan to retire after this season.

• Allie Quigley won the WNBA's 3-Point Contest for a record fourth time Saturday, stamping herself as one of the greatest shooters in the history of the league.

No one in the NBA or WNBA has as many 3-point titles as Quigley, who also won the competition last year. She had been tied with Larry Bird and Craig Hodges with three apiece. TRAIL BLAZERS' FIRST PICK INJURED >> Shaedon Sharpe, the No. 7 pick in last month's NBA draft has been shut down for the remainder of Portland's stay in Las Vegas because of a small labral tear in his left shoulder. Sharpe was hurt in Portland's first Summer League game Thursday night.

Tour de France

VAN AERT WINS EIGHTH STAGE >> Belgian rider Wout van Aert won the eighth stage of the Tour de France on Saturday in Lausanne, Switzerland, and two-time defending champion Tadej Pogacar slightly increased his overall lead.

Van Aert, who won the fourth stage and wore the yellow jersey for three days, edged Michael Matthews in the sprint to the line on the summit finish.

Pogacar was third. He just missed out on a hat trick of victories but extended his advantage to 39 seconds over Jonas Vingegaard and 1:14 ahead of 2018 winner Geraint Thomas.

There was disconcerting news before the start of the day as Geoffrey Bouchard and Vegard Stake Laengen became the first riders to leave the race after testing positive for the coronavirus. Multiple support staff also tested positive. American cyclist Kevin Vermaercke had to abandon early on in the stage after being caught in a crash at the back of the peloton, shortly after the start.

KLIGERMAN SPEAKS FROM BEHIND WHEEL >> Parker Kligerman may be a popular television race commentator, but he reminded the NASCAR Trucks world Saturday that he is first and foremost a race car driver.

The 31-year-old Connecticut driver won the inaugural O'Reilly Auto Parts 150 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in a highly spirited final laps battle with Zane Smith.

Smith, who won at Circuit of The Americas and finished runner-up at both Sonoma and Mid-Ohio, settled for a decent consolation prize with his finish on Saturday. He heads into the regular season finale in two weeks now only two points away from earning the 2022 regular season Camping World Truck Series championship.

Saturday's victory is the third career series win for Kligerman and first since 2017. He became the series' 17th consecutive different winner on a road course. VERSTAPPEN WINS SPRINT >> World champion Max Verstappen comfortably won the sprint race from pole at the Austrian Grand Prix to extend his championship lead, while Ferrari teammates Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr. almost collided as they scrapped behind him.

Verstappen's second sprint win of the season gave him an additional eight points. Leclerc picked up seven points for second place and Sainz got six for finishing third with the top eight scoring points.
