Eva Johanson

-

1923 - 2023 Resident of Walnut Creek, CA

Eva Birgitta Andersson Johansson was born on September 14, 1923 in Tumbleberg, Sweden. (Eva's family change their family name to Öttkarr around WWI as there were too many people with similar names.) She married husband Gustav Johansson in 1948. They, along with their two boys, immigrated to the US in 1954 (when spelling dropped one 's' changing to Johanson). They became US citizens, June 8, 1960.

She passed away peacefully on the evening of January 26, 2023 surrounded by her family in her home in Walnut Creek, California. In the weeks prior to her death, she had countless visitors and calls and was able to share beautiful memories with friends, family, neighbors and people she loved.

Eva is preceded by her sisters Anna Lisa Johansson and Kerstin Enbom, her brother Lars Öttkar, her mother and father Hilda and Anders Johan Andersson, and her husband Gus Johanson. She is survived by her loving daughter Carol Washburn and caring sons Leif and Arne Johanson, as well as her 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Eva lived to help others. She did so with her life-saving nursing skills; providing warmth through quilts and crafts; nourishment through gardening; teaching and sharing knowledge with her patience; and exhibiting her role-model positive and grateful attitude with everyone. She loved to volunteer with Rossmoor community's health services. Active in her Lutheran Church, to the end. Eva also supported Scandinavian social groups: Vasa Lodge and Danish Club. Hobbies included gardening, sewing, crafting, pottery, hiking and traveling.

She was strong, generous, kind, intelligent, witty, tenacious and resilient. She had a contagious laugh--instantaneously spreading fun, love and happiness with every chuckle and smile. She will be missed but never forgotten.

A service will be held on February 18, 2023 at Our Savior Lutheran Church at 1PM.
