OAKLAND >> A 13-year-old girl and her 44-year-old mother were killed and a 12-yearold girl was wounded in a shooting Saturday night at an East Oakland apartment. The woman's boyfriend was arrested as the suspect, authorities said.

Two other children — an infant and a 7-year-old girl — and another adult were not injured, authorities said.

The names of the two killed and the 46-year-old suspect have not yet been released by police.

The shooting happened just after 11 p.m. Saturday in an apartment in the 9500 block of Birch Street.

Authorities said the 44-year-old woman and the suspect had been in a relationship for more than a year. Authorities said they have a 1-year-old daughter together.

Police said some kind of dispute happened between the 44-year-old woman and the suspect in a bedroom, which led to her being fatally shot. The 1-year-old who was in the room was not hurt, authorities said.

The suspect then went to another part of the apartment where he allegedly fatally shot his girlfriend's 13-year-old daughter. He also allegedly shot a 12-year-old girl in the leg who was able to flee the apartment and seek help. The 12-year-old was a friend of the 13-year-old girl and was spending the night at the apartment, authorities said. She was in stable condition.

The 7-year-old daughter of the woman killed and an adult relative were also at the apartment but were not hurt, authorities said.

The suspect remained at the apartment and was arrested there by police. A semi-automatic pistol police believe the man used in the shooting was recovered, authorities said.

Police are still trying to determine what the dispute was about that led to the shooting.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, authorities said.

The killings are the 28th and 29th homicides investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time police had investigated 38 homicides in the city.
