Authorities have revealed that the Oakland woman accused of fatally stabbing her 10-year-old daughter inside their apartment on May 22 taped a goodbye message on Facebook and then returned afterward to post a bloody selfie, the latest indication that her mental health was deteriorating about the time of the homicide.

Rosa Orozco-Suarez, 33, posted a video of her daughter, Sophia Lorenzo Orozco, with the caption, “This is how we say good bye on Facebook,” and “see you on the other side,” authorities said. Then she signed off social media and allegedly stabbed the young girl to death before turning the knife on herself.

In addition to confessing to multiple family members, Orozco-Suarez allegedly returned to social media

to post a photograph of herself with a bloody wound to her neck. One of the family members she called to confess got in touch with the Oakland Police Department, which sent officers to the family's Bancroft Avenue apartment in East Oakland, where Orozco-Suarez was arrested. Sophia was dead when police arrived, authorities say.

Orozco-Suarez's alleged shocking and erratic behavior is only the latest indication

of her degrading mental health; neighbors have told local reporters that she appeared increasingly paranoid and unstable in the weeks leading up to the homicide. Some of her family members have blamed her stress on alleged domestic violence by Sophia's father, who was not present during the homicide.

“It seemed like she was always going through a hard time,” next door neighbor Tony Benavides told this news organization in an interview immediately following Sophia's death. “She was always doing her best and hustling trying to support herself and her kid. She was always teaching her how to be tough. She showed her how to cook and always told her, `One day I'm not going to be here and it's going to be up to you to take care of yourself.' ”

Orozco-Suarez was hospitalized for weeks with self-inflicted injuries, then charged with murder and transferred to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin after her recovery. She is being held without bail and is due in court today to enter a plea.

Her defense attorney has not publicly signaled what approach they will take in fending off the charge.
