Serra eases past Valley Christian with late scoring flurry

In a season filled with blowouts, Serra held just a one-point lead on the road against Valley Christian late in the third quarter in West Catholic Athletic League play.

Then quarterbac­k Maealiuaki Smith threw a 25yard touchdown pass to Kyon Loud for an eightpoint lead with 1:27 left in the third period.

That was followed by a 31yard field goal by Thomas Gooch with 8:18 left as topranked Serra beat No. 4 Valley Christian 24-13 to improve 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the WCAL.

The Padres have one game remaining next Friday at home against St. Ignatius. Valley Christian fell to 5-4, 2-4.

NO. 2 DE LA SALLE 31, MONTE VISTA 7 >> Dominic Kelley rushed for a touchdown from near the goal line and Jaden Jefferson followed later in the first half with a 62-yard scoring run to put visiting De La Salle on top 14-0. The Spartans went on to a comfortabl­e victory in Danville to improve to 7-2. Monte Vista fell to 4-5. Finn Sepic's 23-yard field goal stretched DLS's advantage to 17-0 and Derrick Blanche's short TD run made it 24-7 in the third quarter.

NO. 3 SAN RAMON VALLEY 45, FOOTHILL 14 >> Luke Baker threw for five touchdowns and 350-plus yards to lead SRV to a one-sided victory at home in EBAL Mountain play. Owen Scott had two TD receptions and Marco Jones plowed into the end zone on fourth-and-goal from the 1.

NO. 4 PITTSBURG 34, NO. 17 LIBERTY 13 >> The Pirates broke open a competitiv­e first half with three touchdowns in the third quarter. Elijah Bow ran for two scores and Noah Quesada caught a touchdown pass, one of two thrown by QB Marley Alcantara, as Pittsburg turned a 14-0 game at the half into a 34-7 rout going into the fourth quarter.

NO. 11 ST. FRANCIS 27, NO.5 ARCHBISHOP RIORDAN 20 >> Kingston Keanaaina rushed for 133 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries and a defense led by the Cahoon brothers, linebacker­s Jackson and Chase, Afoa Tuua on the line and Mack Mrowka in the secondary kept visiting Riordan off the scoreboard down the stretch to win in WCAL play.

NO. 6 EL CERRITO 56, DE ANZA 0 >> Michael Vanhook passed for 109 yards and three touchdowns and Lonzell Taylor carried twice for 90 yards and two TDs to help lead El Cerrito to a rout of De Anza in TCAL Rock Division play. Micah Avery added 79 yards and a TD in eight carries and Guardian Harper scored on an 8-yard run as El Cerrito improved to 7-1 heading into next week's regularsea­son finale at Salesian.

Redmani Albert continued to thrive in his transition from wide receiver to quarterbac­k, throwing for one touchdown and rushing for another in McClymonds' third consecutiv­e shutout in Oakland Athletic League play.

NO. 25 CLAYTON VALLEY 33, NO. 8 CALIFORNIA 24 >> Quarterbac­k Tyson Lovett had a huge game for the Ugly Eagles. He scored Clayton Valley's first touchdown on a 16-yard run, threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran in the 2-point conversion after the Uglies' final TD.

NO. 12 ST. IGNATIUS 28, NO. 16 MITTY 21 >> St. Ignatius built a 21-7 lead at halftime behind three short touchdown runs by Jarious Hogan. The Wildcats extended their advantage to 28-7 on a scoring run by Cam Jones, then held on, withstandi­ng Mitty's rally for the WCAL victory.

NO. 13 AMADOR VALLEY 48, DUBLIN 0 >> The Dons completed their regular season by building a 34-0 halftime lead and coasting to another easy win. In four games since losing to Foothill 12-7 on Sept. 22, Amador Valley has outscored its opponents 208-7. All four victories were against EBAL Valley teams. Quarterbac­k Tristan Tia, who had to sit out the first five games after transferri­ng from Granada, threw for five TDs and over 300 yards in the win over Dublin.

NO. 15 MENLO SCHOOL 33, HALF MOON BAY 0 >> Mikey McGrath completed 6 of 12 passes for 159 yards and three touchdowns as Menlo finished PAL De Anza Division play undefeated with a win on the road. Willis Johnson added 60 yards and two touchdowns in nine carries, and Ryan Jabal caught three passes for 91 yards for the Knights (90, 5-0). HMB fell to 2-7, 1-4.

NO. 18 ACALANES 34, NO. 19 LAS LOMAS 14 >> Jack Giorgianni rushed for all 83 of his yards in the fourth quarter to key a punishing Acalanes ground game as the Dons handed Las Lomas its first loss of the season.

NO. 21 CAMPOLINDO 41, MIRAMONTE 21 >> Campolindo kept its hope for a share of the DAL Foothill Division title alive, breaking open the game against visiting Mira- monte with two touchdowns in the third. Sebastien Antonios-McCrea scored on a 5-yard run to make it 21-7 and Mack Fisher's 10-yard run widened the margin to 28-7. If Campo wins at Acalanes on Friday, the teams will share the division title among themselves or in a three-way tie with Los Lomas.

NO. 22 CHRISTOPHE­R 42, LELAND 0 >>

Jaxen Robinson completed 10 of 20 passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score from 3 yards out for Christophe­r. His TD passes were to Matthew Boles and Saed Mustafa. Will Rizqallah carried eight times for 108 yards and two touchdowns. Christophe­r (9-0, 4-0 BVAL Mt. Hamilton) hosts Live Oak, which is also undefeated, on Friday with the division title on the line.

NO. 23 ANTIOCH 44, DEER VALLEY 21 >>

Quarterbac­k Larenzo Mayfield accounted for five of Antioch's six touchdowns — three rushing, two passing — to set up a showdown at Pittsburg next Saturday for the Bay Valley Athletic League title. If Antioch (7-2, 3-1) can beat Pittsburg (9-0, 4-0) for only the third time since 2006, it would create at least a two-way tie and possibly a three-way jam in the BVAL standings.

NO. 24 LIVE OAK 28, OAK GROVE 10 >> Luke Newell threw two touchdown passes and Zach Rocha had a big game as Live Oak remained undefeated with the win over Oak Grove. Newell completed 8 of 11 passes for 144 yards. He had scoring passes of 6 yards to Austin Jennings and 66 yards to Tanner Holeman.

BERKELEY 76, MT. EDEN 6 >>

Berkeley scored 42 points in the first quarter in an MVAL/WACC Mission Division game that ihad a running clock for the entire second half. Deontae Faison threw for five touchdowns and rushed for another and Cahlil Snead caught two TD passes to help lead the way. HERITAGE 35, FREEDOM 0 >>

Mekhi Adanandus ran for 161 yards and two touchdowns as Heritage kept its NCS D-II playoff hopes alive. Heritage had 429 yards of total offense, including 267 rushing yards. Ilias Muhammad ran for 63

yards and one TD.

JAMES LOGAN 33, BISHOP O'DOWD 29 >> Danzel Mercado caught two touchdown passes, including the winner with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter. QB Jonathan Craft threw three TD passes and ran for one more TD. Logan (5-4, 4-0 MVAL/WACC Foothill) has won five in a row. KENNEDY-FREMONT 30, ALAMEDA 24 >> Kennedy stayed tied for first place in the MVAL/WACC Shoreline after it squeaked out a victory over Alameda. Adrian Velasquez ran for three touchdowns and threw one to Jaden Roman to lead Kennedy.

Kamarri Robinson followed up last week's 534-yard rushing game with 115 yards and two TDs on the ground against Dougherty Valley in an EBAL Valley victory.

MT. DIABLO 48, CONCORD 26 >>

Herschel Turner Jr. surpassed the 2,500-yard mark for the season in Mt. Diablo's DAL Valley Division victory over Concord. Turner ran for an even 300 yards and four touchdowns on 14 carries, giving the threestar recruit 2,544 yards and 37 touchdowns this year. Jeremiah Owens ran for 102 yards and quarterbac­k Jakorey Robinson rushed for 39 yards and a touchdown to provide some balance. MOREAU CATHOLIC 42, TENNYSON 12 >> Jeremiah Charles threw three touchdown passes, to Jalen Arnold, Lance Mitchell and Donovan Edwards, and Jayden Bryant scored two TDs to lead Moreau Catholic to a victory on the road over Tennyson in MVAL/WACC Foothill Division play. Moreau improved to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the division.

NORTHGATE 28, ALHAMBRA 17 >>

The Broncos won their second in a row after starting the season with seven straight losses. In a nonleague game at Northgate, the teams combined for five touchdowns and 35 points in the third quarter, and 10 points during the other three periods. The lead changed hands five times before Northgate scored the last two TDs on a 65yard run in the third quarter by Jake Berger and a 71yard race to the end zone by Ben Hosler.

South Bay/Peninsula BRANHAM 35, SILVER CREEK 28 >>

Jack Lewis completed 20 of 28 passes for 235 yards as Branham clinched a CCS playoff spot and no worse than a tie for the BVAL Santa Teresa-Foothill Division title with a victory on the road over Silver Creek. Lewis threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. CARLMONT 43, FREMONTSUN­NYVALE 33 >> Braeden Kumer ran for 204 yards and a touchdown in 24 carries and Christian Booth added two rushing touchdowns to lead Carlmont to a victory at home over Fremont-Sunnyvale.

DEL MAR 39, GUNDERSON 25 >>

Del Mar rallied from a 17-0 halftime deficit on Thursday to stay perfect in BVAL West Valley play. The outcome sets up a win-orgo-home matchup against Prospect next week for the division's one automatic CCS playoff spot. Andrew Fernandez's 85-yard TD pass to Terreon Hunt and Marquise Hall's 11-yard rushing touchdown helped build Gunderson's lead. But in the second half, Del Mar's senior quarterbac­k Andre Latimore rushed for five touchdowns and the majority of his 267 yards to author a comeback.

LOS ALTOS 35, WOODSIDE 7 >>

Los Altos captured the PAL El Camino Division title. Woodside finished in a three-way tie for second place with Fremont and Carlmont but will receive the division's second automatic qualifying spot into the CCS playoffs by virtue of having defeated both Fremont and Carlmont. Los Altos' Max Morelle rushed for 92 yards and scored three touchdowns.

MENLO-ATHERTON 38, BURLINGAME 7 >>

Sophomore Teddy Dacey, in his second start at quarterbac­k after being called up from the junior varsity, threw two touchdown passes on jump balls to 6-foot-7 receiver Alek Marshall as M-A rolled at home. Jordan Masuisui scored two rushing touchdowns and sophomore Evaimalo Ama added another on a 45-yard run.

OVERFELT 68, MT. PLEASANT 0 >>

It was all Overfelt in this BVAL Santa Teresa-Valley Division matchup as the host Royals got a huge game from QB Gabe Martinez, who completed 14 of 19 passes for 465 yards and six touchdowns. Walter Smith reeled in eight receptions for 263 yards and five TDs. He also intercepte­d a pass and returned a fumble 90 yards for a TD.

PIEDMONT HILLS 33, INDEPENDEN­CE 15 >>

Dylan Blank scored three touchdowns to lead Piedmont Hills to an upset win over Independen­ce in a game between rivals from Northeast San Jose. The Pirates built a 26-0 lead on two TDs by Blank and two touchdown passes from Alex Tran to Alonzo Johnson and to Blank.

PROSPECT 48, EVERGREEN VALLEY 6 >>

Prospect quarterbac­k Tommy Lewit threw three touchdown passes as the Panthers remained undefeated in BVAL West Valley play with a victory at home. Jack Austin was on the receiving end of two of the TDs, and Shak Edelstein pulled in the other. Lewit also scored on a quarterbac­k sneak. Prospect (8-1, 6-0) will play at home against Del Mar on Friday with the West Valley championsh­ip and the division's one automatic CCS playoff spot on the line. SAN MATEO 21, SEQUOIA 7 >> San Mateo's domination of time of possession was the deciding factor in the PAL Ocean victory. The Bearcats limited Sequoia to six plays in the first half and had the ball for 34 of the 48 minutes overall. Emmanuel Fitzgerald rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown. QB Cameron Palma ran for 92 yards and two touchdowns.

SANTA TERESA 27, LINCOLNSAN JOSE 7 >>

Santa Teresa is closing in on a CCS playoff berth after winning at home over Lincoln. With one week to play, Santa Teresa is alone in third, one game ahead of Leland and Oak Grove.

THE KING'S ACADEMY 41, HILLSDALE 35 >>

Jeaden Underwood carried 33 times for 229 yards and five touchdowns to lead TKA on a big night for the offenses. Erick Waugh threw five touchdown passes for Hillsdale. Waugh's 27-yard TD pass to Jack Haywood with six minutes to go tied the score at 35-35. Underwood's 11-yard run with two minutes left provided the winning margin.

WESTMONT 34, WILLOW GLEN 7 >>

Quarterbac­k Mason Pound and receiver Mason Price were quite the duo in this BVAL Santa Teresa-Valley Division game against visiting Willow Glen. Price had 11 catches for 223 yards and two touchdowns on a night in which Pound completed 17 of 24 passes for 300 yards and three TDs.
