Ygnacio Valley, Benicia boys teams roar into DAL semifinals

The Ygnacio Valley boys basketball team, seeded No. 1 in the Diablo Athletic League tournament, had no letdown in its opening game.

Antonio Kellogg Jr. had 16 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals as host Ygnacio Valley earned a 79-45 win over Miramonte on Tuesday. The ninthranke­d Warriors led 25-8 after the first quarter and 4718 at halftime on their way to a spot in the semifinals tonight at home against Benicia.

The Warriors (21-6) also got 11 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and six steals from Jalan Cody.

Jack Quinnild had 12 points — all on 3-pointers — and Marcus Robinson added 10 for Miramonte (17-11).

Benicia 69, Northgate 61: Trailing 39-38 after three quarters, Benicia scored 31 points over the final eight minutes to turn back visiting Northgate and advance to the semifinals of the DAL tournament tonight at Ygnacio Valley.

Brandon Earl (16 points), Marcus Barron (13 points) and Jackdan Eyike (11 points) scored in double figures for Benicia (189). Northgate (18-10) got 19 points from David Harris and 13 points from both Jake Andjus and Daniel Louie.

No. 17 Dublin 91, Amador Valley 51:

Held to 32 points in a loss against Dougherty Valley on Friday, Dublin did something about it in its East Bay Athletic League tournament opener. The Gaels scored 30 points in the opening quarter and 53 in the first half and cruised past the Dons.

Evan Bautista was 6 for 6 from 3-point range and finished with 22 points, three rebounds and two assists to lead Dublin (20-7), which faced Dougherty Valley in a rematch on Wednesday in the quarterfin­als after this edition went to press.

Ori Khasin (14 points, four 3-pointers) and Kasen Krueger (eight points) led Amador Valley (17-11).

No. 15 Monte Vista 55, Foothill 43:

Monte Vista led by 11 after three quarters on its way past Foothill in the EBAL tournament.

Jacob Shehata (15 points), Daniel Cojocaru (13 points) and Max Nishikawa (12 points) scored in double figures for Monte Vista (12-6). Gurshan Sall had 19 points for Foothill (17-11).

No. 20 Campolindo 51, College Park 45:

Host Campolindo survived a DAL quarterfin­al against College Park, eventually exhaling with a victory that sent the third-seeded Cougars into a matchup today at second-seeded Clayton Valley Charter.

Tim Smith (14 points), Ren Marchetti (10 points) and Dylan Mansour (nine points) led Campo (21-6). College Park is 14-14.

No. 3Archbisho­p Riordan 76, No. 6 Archbishop Mitty 56:

Riordan took a 24-4 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in a crucial and impressive West Catholic League win over the visiting Monarchs.

Riordan (18-4, 12-0) can clinch the outright WCAL championsh­ip with a win against Bellarmine on Friday. It was also the program's first sweep of Mitty since 2002. Mitty (16-6, 102) was led by Caeden Hutcherson's 17 points.

No. 8 Sacred Heart Prep 63, Menlo School 42:

Sacred Heart Prep built a ninepoint lead at halftime and pulled away in the fourth quarter for a victory at rival Menlo School in West Bay Athletic League play.

The Gators (18-4, 8-0) maintained their one-game advantage over The King's Academy with two games to play. TKA visits SHP on Friday night.

TJ O'Brien had 14 points and Matthew Norris and Drew Wagner each scored eight points to lead SHP on Tuesday.

Ethan Zhao had 17 points for Menlo (12-10, 5-3).

Girls basketball No. 1 Archbishop Mitty 79, No. 9 Archbishop Riordan 38:

Playing for the second consecutiv­e game without UConn-bound point guard Morgan Cheli, the Monarchs (22-0, 10-0 WCAL) got another huge performanc­e sophomore forward McKenna Woliczko, who scored 29 points. Ashanti Dias scored 14 points to lead the Crusaders (14-7, 6-4).

No. 4 Sacred Heart Cathedral 58, Valley Christian 46: SHC led 39-17 at halftime and went on to defeat visiting Valley Christian in a WCAL game. Maddie Eade (13 points) and Kiana Moniz (11 points) led SHC (17-3, 7-2). Mia Kagita had 16 points and Olivia Arellano added 11 points for Valley Christian (12-11, 2-9).

No. 6 Bishop O'Dowd 75, Alameda 32:

Senior Nyah Greenwood scored 16 points to lead host O'Dowd past Alameda in WACC Foothill Division game. The Dragons upped their record to 17-5, 6-1. Freshman Desiree Shoblo had eight points for Alameda (17-7, 3-4).

No. 7 Pinewood 71, Notre Dame-Belmont 34:

Pinewood star Alex Facelo made six 3-pointers and finished with 18 points as the Panthers routed host Notre Dame in a WBAL Foothill Division game.

Vallory Kuelker and Katherine Garr each added 13 points for Pinewood (18-4, 8-0).
