Davis to join A's, per report, after being let go by Giants

- Staff and wire reports

Less than a week after he was placed on waivers by the Giants, infielder J.D. Davis has reportedly agreed to a one-year contract with the Oakland A's.

Davis, who became a free agent last weekend, is in agreement on a one-year deal with the A's, pending a physical, according to FanSided's Robert Murray, citing sources.

The contract is worth $2.5 million, with $1 million in incentives, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

Davis lost his job as the starting third baseman in San Francisco when the Giants signed Matt Chapman. Efforts by the Giants to trade Davis were unsuccsessful, and he went unclaimed on waivers.

Davis was slated to make $6.9 million in salary this season after he won an arbitration hearing with the team.

ALEXANDER OUT >> A's left-handed reliever Scott Alexander is unlikely to pitch again this spring as he recovers from a stress reaction in his rib cage, manager Mark Kotsay told reporters Friday.

Alexander, a nine-year veteran who joined the A's this offseason from the Giants, has not pitched since March 6 and gave up eight earned runs over 2.1 innings (three appearances) early in spring.

He was set to be the A's top lefty out of the bullpen after signing a one-year deal. Sean Newcomb, who arrived via trade from the Giants last August, is the only other lefthanded reliever on the team's active roster. Hogan Harris and minor-leaguer Brady Basso are on the 40-man.

FELIPE HAS SURGERY >> Angel Felipe, who appeared in 14 games last year for the A's, underwent Tommy John surgery and will miss the 2024 season. Felipe had not pitched this spring. He arrived last June after the A's claimed him off waivers from the Padres and allowed seven runs over 15 innings between July and August.
