An 18-year-old Antioch man allegedly driving the wrong way on Interstate 580 and a woman in an SUV were killed Sunday morning in a head-on collision, the California Highway Patrol said.

Three others in the SUV, including an infant and a young child, were injured, the CHP said.

The names of the two people killed were not released Monday.

The collision happened about 2:04 a.m. Sunday on westbound I-580 west of Corral Hollow Road.

The CHP said a Honda

Accord driven by the Antioch man was traveling eastbound in the lane closest to the center divider when he collided head-on with a Kia Tellrude SUV going westbound in the same lane.

The impact caused both vehicles to overturn.

The Antioch man was ejected into the center median and pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.

The driver of the Kia, a 32-year-old woman from

Fort Bragg, was transported to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries, the CHP said.

A 2-month-old girl and a 35-year old person who were passengers in the Kia sustained major injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment. Their conditions were not available Monday.

A four-year-old boy who was also a passenger in the Kia sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital. His condition was also not available Monday.

The CHP said it is unknown if alcohol or drugs contributed to the cause of the crash.

All lanes of I-580 westbound were closed and traffic was diverted onto Corral Hollow Road during the investigation. All lanes were re-opened at approximately 5:45 a.m. Sunday.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to call the CHP Tracy office at 209319-4300.
