How did you cover the 2020 election as a one-person newsroom?
Be ready for anything. As a one-woman shop, I prioritized the election as a county matter. It became an international story while I was covering it. Then I became the story for about a week and a half. I sometimes filed stories by iphone, sometimes shot Facebook Live video with one hand and a DSLR with the other. I let some smaller local stories slide temporarily out of necessity, updating my local audience via Facebook Live from my car. Poynter’s MMJ (multimedia journalist) training and a Macgyver willingness to use the tools at hand helped. My mantra: Trust yourself. You’ve got this.
