The Kurzweil data entry machine converts ordinary printed material (including most newspapers) to digital form on an average of 10 to 15 and up to 25 times faster than a human operator typing at a keyboard. The price of the machine was $89,000, including scanner, workstatio­n, CRT, processor, and 10MB disk drive. This photo originally appeared in the May 2, 1981 issue of E&P.
