La Prensa San Diego Files Lawsuit Against Police to Obtain 911 Calls
According to the San Diego Union-tribune, La Prensa San Diego has filed a lawsuit against the San Diego Police Department to get a clearer picture of what led up to the rough arrest of a Black man in La Jolla, Calif. The newspaper seeks to obtain audio of any 911 calls tied to the incident. Initially, Las Prensa San Diego requested any 911 calls connected to the event. In a response two days later, a dispatch administrator said the audio of 911 calls was withheld, citing a state law that allows agencies to withhold records tied to investigations and records in cases in which “the public interest served by not disclosing the record clearly outweighs the public interest served by disclosure of the record.”
