Bryant dance teams to hold golf tournament
Bryant dance teams are planning to start a new spring tradition by introducing the League of Legends Golf Tournament, which will be held May 18 at Longhills Golf Course in Benton.
The tournament will be a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
According to Varsity Dance Coach Brooke Crump, the tournament is named for former coach Laura Wooten, who Crump said is a legend in the dance community.
“We are hoping to continue on in her footsteps,” Crump said. “Bryant dance has held the state title many years in the past and we hope to bring that title back home very soon.”
Day-of registration begins at 11:30 a.m. A lunch by David’s Burger’s will be at noon. The cost for the lunch is $10.
The tournament will be a four-man scramble.
Crump said there will be three games on the course which will give the teams an advantage on the hole — diving for ducks, roll the dice and golf ball pong. To play is $5 per game. There will be prizes for winning the games plus door prizes.
Mulligans will also be available for $5 each.
Crump explained that dance is an expensive sport. While each dancer’s family pays a fee, it does not cover everything to compete.
“Through fundraising, we are able to do more,” Crump said.
She added that the program empowers the dancers. The money from the fundraiser will be split among the dance teams to help pay for competition costumes, fees, choreography and music. Bryant varsity dance is hoping to secure a bid to the Universal Dance Association Nationals in Orlando, Florida. The money will help fund the trip.
“We want the community to know that dance is a very competitive sport, much like football and basketball,” Crump said. “Our athletes work countless hours perfecting their sport all the while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.7. The support of the community means a lot, not only to our school, but to all the dance teams within our community. Dance gives these talented athletes a place to belong when navigating the challenging years of high school.”
All players will receive goody bags with golf balls, snacks and refreshments.
Near the registration table, Crump said there will be a table set up with items for a silent auction. Some of the items to bid on include hotel packages, gift cards for a spa day and a party package from Third Realm.
At the end of the tournament trophies will be awarded to the winners.
The deadline to register in advance is Friday. Registration will also be available the day of the event, but Crump said they prefer early registration.
To register, email Crump at [email protected]ols. org or fill out the event flyer and drop it off at Bryant High School. A copy of the flyer can be found on the Facebook page for the event.
“We love opportunities to work alongside our community partners and supporters, and we look forward to hosting a fun and friendly golf competition,” Crump said.
