Jr. Black Sox jump on Sport Shop
BENTON – It was all Bryant Junior Black Sox (17U) Tuesday in Benton. The Jr. Sox routed the Benton Sport Shop Dirtbags (17U) 17-5 to improve to 13-2 on the season, while Sport Shop falls to 5-3.
The Jr. Sox would get the scoring started early as Noah Davis, who went 4 for 4, hit a one-out single in the top of the first and JT Parker walked. Both runners advanced to second and third on a double steal and both runners scored on Ryan Riggs’ double to center for the 2-0 lead.
After a strikeout for the second out, Kyler Pabon came through with an RBI single for the 3-0 lead after one.
The Black Sox went up 5-0 in the second on Parker’s sacrifice fly and
Riggs’ RBI single, but Sport Shop responded in the bottom of the inning. One-out singles by Ethan Matthews and Easton Dinwiddie got the inning started, with Matthews later scoring on an error and Caleb Goines singling in a run to get within 5-2.
Walks would aid the
Jr. Sox in the third. After Pabon singled, Bryant was issued four straight walks, with both Blaine Sears and Lawson Speers getting bases-loaded base on balls to put the Sox up 7-2. Davis followed with a 2-run single before Bryant added two more runs, one on a Parker RBI ground out, for the 11-2 lead after two and a half innings.
Sport Shop’s Jackson Regan doubled to start the bottom of the third and Bryant returned the favor with free passes issuing five walks, three in a row, in the inning, including Junior Acosta, Dinwiddie and Cole Babcock picking up RBI walks to get the Dirtbags within 11-5.
But, the Black Sox would put the game well out of reach in the fourth inning with a 6-spot for the 17-5 final.
