Jr. Black Sox jump on Sport Shop

BEN­TON – It was all Bryant Ju­nior Black Sox (17U) Tues­day in Ben­ton. The Jr. Sox routed the Ben­ton Sport Shop Dirt­bags (17U) 17-5 to im­prove to 13-2 on the sea­son, while Sport Shop falls to 5-3.

The Jr. Sox would get the scor­ing started early as Noah Davis, who went 4 for 4, hit a one-out sin­gle in the top of the first and JT Parker walked. Both run­ners ad­vanced to sec­ond and third on a double steal and both run­ners scored on Ryan Riggs’ double to cen­ter for the 2-0 lead.

Af­ter a strike­out for the sec­ond out, Kyler Pabon came through with an RBI sin­gle for the 3-0 lead af­ter one.

The Black Sox went up 5-0 in the sec­ond on Parker’s sac­ri­fice fly and

Riggs’ RBI sin­gle, but Sport Shop re­sponded in the bot­tom of the in­ning. One-out sin­gles by Ethan Matthews and Eas­ton Dinwiddie got the in­ning started, with Matthews later scor­ing on an er­ror and Caleb Goines sin­gling in a run to get within 5-2.

Walks would aid the

Jr. Sox in the third. Af­ter Pabon sin­gled, Bryant was is­sued four straight walks, with both Blaine Sears and Law­son Speers get­ting bases-loaded base on balls to put the Sox up 7-2. Davis fol­lowed with a 2-run sin­gle be­fore Bryant added two more runs, one on a Parker RBI ground out, for the 11-2 lead af­ter two and a half in­nings.

Sport Shop’s Jack­son Re­gan dou­bled to start the bot­tom of the third and Bryant re­turned the fa­vor with free passes is­su­ing five walks, three in a row, in the in­ning, in­clud­ing Ju­nior Acosta, Dinwiddie and Cole Bab­cock pick­ing up RBI walks to get the Dirt­bags within 11-5.

But, the Black Sox would put the game well out of reach in the fourth in­ning with a 6-spot for the 17-5 fi­nal.

Davis fin­ished his 4-for-4 day with four runs and four RBIS, Riggs was 3 for 4 with four RBIS and Pabon was 3 for 4 with an RBI. Speer was 1 for 4 with three runs and two RBIS, while Parker had three RBIS and two runs with­out a hit. Colby Morrow went 1 for 2 with two runs.

For Ben­ton, Re­gan, Austin Hil­lis, Goines and Matthews all went 1 for 2 with a run, and Dinwiddie was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

The Jr. Sox will head to Fayet­teville to play in the Chad Wolffe Tour­na­ment be­gin­ning to­day, with the Dirt­bags heading to Carlisle to­day.
