Smith House topic of Thurs­day pre­sen­ta­tion

The Sa­line County His­tory & Her­itage So­ci­ety will host

Joe Tol­lett for its monthly pro­gram at 7 p.m. Thurs­day at the SCHHS Ar­chives and Re­search Cen­ter in Down­town Benton, lo­cated at 123 North Mar­ket St. Tol­lett is restor­ing the 1885 Smith House on Se­vier Street.

At­ten­dees will hear the his­tory of the house and the fam­i­lies who have called the house a home. This house has been com­pletely ren­o­vated and will be a great ad­di­tion to the Down­town his­toric scene, ac­cord­ing to Steve Per­due, pro­gram chair­men for the so­ci­ety.

Tol­lett, who is a mem­ber of the Sa­line County His­tory & Her­itage So­ci­ety, has been work­ing on the

house for sev­eral years. He has re­cently re­turned from Texas where he has un­cov­ered new in­for­ma­tion about the house and the fam­ily who lived there.

The Sa­line County

His­tory & Her­itage So­ci­ety is cel­e­brat­ing 33 years of pre­serv­ing the his­tory of Sa­line County. It is the old­est his­tor­i­cal so­ci­ety in the county. Shirley Cop­pock and Per­due serve as pro­gram chair­men and Wil­son Du­vall serves as the so­ci­ety pres­i­dent.
