Policy changes, school purchases top Bryant board meeting agenda
The agenda for the Bryant
School Board’s regular meeting today is a lengthy one which includes discussions about purchases for the Bryant Junior High School along with updates to district policies and student handbooks.
The board meeting will take place at 6 p.m. today at the Professional Development Center at the Bryant High School.
With Bryant Junior High School set to open in August, the board will be discussing the purchase of new technology for the school.
Jeremy Cunningham, director for the district’s Technology Department, will be presenting information about the purchase of 90 lab computers, 450 Chromebooks and 15 charging carts. He will also present a request to add 80 computers for two engineering labs and a business lab. This purchase is part of the district’s ongoing student device rollover plan, according to the board’s agenda.
The board is set to discuss changes to the district’s policies as well as student handbooks. Members had previously discussed the changes during a work session earlier this month.
“Most of the proposed revisions (for district policies) were made necessary by the enactment of new laws by the Arkansas General Assembly or rules of the State Board of Education,” according to information included in the agenda.
The board is scheduled to recognize several students and teachers. During the recognitions portion of the meeting, the board will honor members of the Lady Hornets track team, the Bryant High School esports team and teachers who participated in the second leadership cadre.
Other items on the agenda include:
•May 2019 Financial report.
•An out-of-state travel request for the Bryant High School Band to attend a marching band competition in October in Indianapolis.
•The purchase of Newsela Pro for all teachers and students. The instructional platform will be used by second through 12th grades. The cost for the platform is $61,650.
•The purchase of two new school buses. Including the buses and equipment, the estimated cost is $98,641.
All meetings of the Bryant School Board are open to the public and attendance is encouraged.
