7U Hornets split in pool play
GULF SHORES, Ala. – Opening the USSSA World Series on Tuesday, the Bryant Hornets 7U squad split their first two games of pool play, falling 9-7 to the Oklahoma Okies in the first game, and rocking the Rockdale TKO Giants (Georgia) 19-4 in Game 2.
The Hornets (35-13) pounded out 25 hits in the 15-run shellacking as 10 players had multi-hit games, three with three hits, and jumped out to a 15-0 lead before Rockdale scored four in the bottom the third. But, Bryant responded with four runs in the top of the fourth to conclude the rout.
Trey Patterson went 3 for 3 with four RBIS, Paxon Abrahamson was 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIS and Wyatt Mosely finished 3 for 3 with two runs and two RBIS.
Lane Warren went 2 for 2 with three RBIS, Chase Fleming 2 for 2 with two RBIS, and Jaxson Harrison, Crue Chalmers, BJ Silas, Mason Parker and Caden Knox all added two hits apiece.
In the first game, Bryant led 5-4 after three innings and outhit the Okies 17-15, but the Okies added a run in the fourth to tie things up and put up a 4-spot in the sixth to go up 9-5. The Hornets came back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth but couldn’t finish the comeback.
Patterson went 3 for 3 with two RBIS and Cooper Hunt was 3 for 3 with two runs and an RBI. Silas, Parker and Mosely all went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Wednesday’s games
On Wednesday, the Hornets fell 10-5 to the
RGV Cubs before putting another thumping on Cinch Baseball Red with an 18-0 shutout.
Bryant held Red to just one hit, while pounding out 22 of its own, including home runs by Mosely and Patterson. The Hornets scored five in the first, six in the second and seven in the third, invoking the sportsmanship rule after three innings.
Patterson had another three-hit game, going 3 for 3 with a homer, triple, three runs and four RBIS. Harrison went 3 for 3, while Hunt was 2 for 2 with three RBIS. Silas, Abrahamson, Chalmers and Garrion Madison all had two hits and two RBIS apiece.
In the 10-5 loss to the Cubs, Harrison went 3 for 3 with a homer and three RBIS, with Patterson, Silas, Fleming and Madison adding two hits apiece.
