7U Hor­nets split in pool play

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Open­ing the USSSA World Se­ries on Tues­day, the Bryant Hor­nets 7U squad split their first two games of pool play, fall­ing 9-7 to the Ok­la­homa Okies in the first game, and rock­ing the Rock­dale TKO Gi­ants (Ge­or­gia) 19-4 in Game 2.

The Hor­nets (35-13) pounded out 25 hits in the 15-run shel­lack­ing as 10 play­ers had multi-hit games, three with three hits, and jumped out to a 15-0 lead be­fore Rock­dale scored four in the bot­tom the third. But, Bryant re­sponded with four runs in the top of the fourth to con­clude the rout.

Trey Pat­ter­son went 3 for 3 with four RBIS, Paxon Abra­ham­son was 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIS and Wy­att Mosely fin­ished 3 for 3 with two runs and two RBIS.

Lane War­ren went 2 for 2 with three RBIS, Chase Flem­ing 2 for 2 with two RBIS, and Jax­son Har­ri­son, Crue Chalmers, BJ Silas, Ma­son Parker and Caden Knox all added two hits apiece.

In the first game, Bryant led 5-4 af­ter three in­nings and outhit the Okies 17-15, but the Okies added a run in the fourth to tie things up and put up a 4-spot in the sixth to go up 9-5. The Hor­nets came back with two runs in the bot­tom of the sixth but couldn’t fin­ish the come­back.

Pat­ter­son went 3 for 3 with two RBIS and Cooper Hunt was 3 for 3 with two runs and an RBI. Silas, Parker and Mosely all went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Wed­nes­day’s games

On Wed­nes­day, the Hor­nets fell 10-5 to the

RGV Cubs be­fore put­ting an­other thump­ing on Cinch Base­ball Red with an 18-0 shutout.

Bryant held Red to just one hit, while pound­ing out 22 of its own, in­clud­ing home runs by Mosely and Pat­ter­son. The Hor­nets scored five in the first, six in the sec­ond and seven in the third, in­vok­ing the sports­man­ship rule af­ter three in­nings.

Pat­ter­son had an­other three-hit game, go­ing 3 for 3 with a homer, triple, three runs and four RBIS. Har­ri­son went 3 for 3, while Hunt was 2 for 2 with three RBIS. Silas, Abra­ham­son, Chalmers and Gar­rion Madi­son all had two hits and two RBIS apiece.

In the 10-5 loss to the Cubs, Har­ri­son went 3 for 3 with a homer and three RBIS, with Pat­ter­son, Silas, Flem­ing and Madi­son adding two hits apiece.

The Hor­nets opened bracket play at 10 a.m. this morn­ing vs. SETX Mizuno.
