BENTON – Up for most of the game, Benton Everett Buick GMC couldn’t hold onto the lead as Jacksonville Gwatney Chevrolet came back to claim a 10-9 win over Everett Tuesday at Bernard Holland Park in Benton.

The loss drops Everett to 5-13 overall as Jacksonville put up three runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. But, Benton came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning as Braden Carman, who walked to lead off the inning, and Triston Hammonds both came around to score, helped by Jake Green’s single, for the 3-2 deficit after one.

But, Benton busted out with four runs in the second inning as Trey Miller singled and Seth Chestman doubled to begin the inning. Both would later score, as did Eli Williams and Hammonds, both reaching on singles, to make it a 6-3 Everett advantage.

Gwatney added two runs in the top of the fourth to get within 6-5, but Benton came back with a run of its own in the bottom of the fifth as Miller singled with one out and later scored on Carman’s RBI single for the 7-5 game.

Jacksonville picked up a run in the top of the sixth to get within a run and put up a 4-spot in the top of the seventh to take its first lead, 10-7, since the first inning. Everett was able to get two runs in the bottom of the inning, but couldn’t get over the hump to take the loss.

Hammonds, Miller and Chestman all had two hits and two runs apiece, while Williams finished 2 for 5 with a run. Green was 2 for 3, Carman 1 for 3 with two runs and Brenden Burks added a 1-for-3 day.

Benton returns to action on Friday when Everett host Morrilton with first pitch coming at 7 p.m.
