Board to discuss land deeds, site work at meeting
The Bryant School Board is scheduled to discuss several items, including land deeds and site work at Parkway Elementary School, during a regular meeting today at Bryant Junior High. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.
More than a year ago, the Bryant School District applied for a permit through the Army Corp of Engineers to drain a pond at Parkway Elementary School to add more green space for students to run and play.
After recently receiving approval of the permit, the board will discuss a quote for this work at the school.
Redstone Construction has provided a quote to the district of $184,500 to drain the pond and construct basketball courts and green space.
The board will also discuss deeding Henry Avenue near Parkway Elementary School, along with land at Ashley Park, to the city of Bryant.
According to information included in the meeting agenda, city officials discovered that several lots that are part of Ashley Park are owned by the district. The land had been deeded to the district in 1962.
Since the district is not planning to use the lots and the land has been maintained for years by the city, board members will discuss deeding the land in the park to the city.
Other items on the agenda include:
•A financial report.
•12 transfer requests.
•The purchase of furniture for the Fine Arts Building that is currently under construction at Bryant High School.
•A resolution involving the 2020 school board election. District administration is recommending elections take place on the date of the Preferential Primary in even numbered years and the third Tuesday in May in odd numbered years.
•School improvement plans for each school in the district.
All meetings are open to the public and attendance is encouraged.
