David L. Howard, 74, of Alexan­der, passed away Wed­nes­day, July 24, with fam­ily by his side. David was born Dec. 18, 1944, in Jones­boro, to the late Tal­madge and Pauline (Smith) Howard.

David was Chris­tian by faith, and he loved his fam­ily dearly and spend­ing time with them was his fa­vorite thing, but he never met a stranger. He also en­joyed be­ing out­side hunt­ing with both gun and bow and fish­ing and even mas­tered the art of “Dutch Oven” cook­ing and grilling. David also pi­loted small air crafts and en­joyed pho­tog­ra­phy and bowl­ing.

David, as a young man, worked for 31 years for Bor­den Dairy. He later opened his own busi­ness that he was very proud of, “Howard’s Jan­i­to­rial Ser­vice,” be­fore go­ing on to work at CADC from which he re­tired.

David is pre­ceded in death by a brother, Larry Howard.

He is sur­vived by his lov­ing wife of 14 years, Char­lene Howard; three sons, Gary Howard and wife, Tonya, of Cabot, Mark Howard, of Ri­son, and Pre­ston Howard, of Mar­i­anna; two step­daugh­ters, Brenda John­son and hus­band, Glen, of Alexan­der, and San­dra Hol­combel of Alexan­der; five grand­chil­dren; seven step­grand­chil­dren; 14 step­great-grand­chil­dren; a sis­ter, Kan­sie Howard, of Lit­tle Rock; a sis­ter-in-law, Dianne Howard, of Fayettevil­le; and a num­ber of other fam­ily mem­bers and friends who will miss him greatly.

Visi­ta­tion will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Mon­day, July 29, at Smith-ben­ton Funeral Home.

Funeral ser­vice will be held at 11 a.m. Tues­day, July 30, at Smith-ben­ton Funeral Home, with burial fol­low­ing at Ten Mile Ceme­tery with Bro. Mar­cus Blak­ley of­fi­ci­at­ing.
