Frances Joy Scott Pel­ton, 88, died Mon­day, Aug. 19, while sur­rounded by her fam­ily. She was born March 9, 1931, in the Salem Com­mu­nity of Sa­line County to Elmer and Flossie Hamilton Scott. She was the youngest of nine children. She grad­u­ated from Bryant High School where she was vale­dic­to­rian and cap­tain of the bas­ket­ball team. Af­ter grad­u­at­ing from Draughon School of Busi­ness in Lit­tle Rock, she worked for the FBI. She mar­ried John Pel­ton Jr. on April 1, 1951. They were mar­ried for 68 years and to­gether they raised three children. She worked as ex­ec­u­tive ad­min­is­tra­tive as­sis­tant in the El­e­men­tary Ed­u­ca­tion De­part­ment at UALR for al­most 20 years. She was de­voted to her fam­ily and loved host­ing large fam­ily gath­er­ings. As a long­time ded­i­cated mem­ber of Salem United Methodist Church, she served in many ca­pac­i­ties. Through United Methodist Women, she ex­er­cised her pas­sion and care for oth­ers. She served her com­mu­nity through de­liv­er­ing Meals on Wheels, serv­ing at CJCHON and the Rice De­pot. Her love of mu­sic was in­stilled in her children and grand­chil­dren. She loved play­ing the pi­ano, singing in the sanc­tu­ary choir and play­ing in the bell choir un­til re­cently.

She is sur­vived by three children, Belinda (Phil) Price, Mark (Bar­bara) Pel­ton and Mary Anne (Karl) Seib­ert; eight grand­chil­dren, Matt Price, Han­nah Hunt, Emily Rosen­thal, Melissa Abuzeid, El­iz­a­beth Price, Abigail Kreie, Luke Pel­ton and Joy Pel­ton; 11 great-grand­chil­dren; and a num­ber of fam­ily mem­bers and friends.

Visi­ta­tion will be held at 10 a.m. Thurs­day, Aug. 22, at Salem United Methodist Church, with a memorial ser­vice fol­low­ing at 11 a.m.
