Walker an­nounces ad­di­tion for Tro­jans

LIT­TLE ROCK — Lit­tle Rock head bas­ket­ball Coach Dar­rell Walker has an­nounced the ad­di­tion of trans­fer guard Ben Coupet Jr. to the Tro­jan ros­ter. Coupet trans­fers to Lit­tle Rock from UNLV and will have two years of el­i­gi­bil­ity re­main­ing.

“I’m ex­cited to add

Ben to our ros­ter and the ath­leti­cism he brings,” Walker said. “He’s very versatile, long and is highly re­garded for his de­fen­sive skills. He is some­one that we’ll look to to take shots in key mo­ments and can also han­dle the point guard du­ties when needed.”

Coupet Jr. ar­rives in Lit­tle Rock af­ter spend­ing three sea­sons at UNLV, uti­liz­ing his red­shirt sea­son in 2017-18. Coupet played in 18 games for the Run­nin’ Rebels with a pair of starts, scor­ing 25 points and grab­bing 27 re­bounds in 125 to­tal min­utes. He was also ef­fi­cient from the free-throw line, knock­ing down nine of his 11 at­tempts in Las Ve­gas.

A na­tive of Chicago, Coupet Jr. grad­u­ated from Simeon Ca­reer Academy where he av­er­aged 10 points and four re­bounds per game, en route to be­ing named a first team all-league se­lec­tion. He was part of a Wolver­ine team that cap­tured the Illi­nois state ti­tle in 2013 and a city cham­pi­onship in 2016 and was a 3-star re­cruit from ESPN, ranked as the num­ber 39 small for­ward in his class.

With the ad­di­tion of Coupet Jr., Walker’s 2019-20 Tro­jan ros­ter is com­plete as the team has re­ported to Lit­tle Rock with classes get­ting un­der­way Mon­day. Work­outs con­tinue un­til of­fi­cial prac­tices be­gin in Oc­to­ber, lead­ing into the start of the 2019-20 sea­son in early Novem­ber.
