Bryant beaten in opener
HOT SPRINGS – The Bryant Lady Hornets volleyball team got off to a tough start to the season Tuesday in Hot Springs. After defeating the Lakeside Lady Rams 29-27 in a competitive first set, Lakeside would sweep Bryant the rest of the way with 25-8, 25-7 and 25-16 victories for the 3-1 win.
“It was a definitely a rollercoaster ride,” said Bryant Coach Leigh Ann Back. “We played a phenomenal first set and then the second set we struggled with all aspects of the game. They have a very good player on their squad and we allowed her to singlehandedly beat us the second and third set. We had some people that were just out of position so we had to make some substitutions and try some other people in that position.”
The Lady Rams had 20 wins a season ago, so the Lady Hornets didn’t start their year with a cupcake.
“Lakeside is very good, very experienced, very knowledgeable, a very good coach,” Back said. “They’re a salty crew.”
Though Bryant didn’t play well in the final three sets, the Lady
Hornets were solid in the first one.
“In the first set, it was a true, very balanced team effort,” Back said. “Everybody was doing what they needed to do.”
The Lady Hornets will host the Pulaski Academy Lady Bruins today at 4:30 p.m., with a fish fry catered by Riverside Grocery at 4 p.m.
“PA is coached by a good friend of mine,” Back said of PA Coach Savannah Jacoby. “I have a couple of family friends
