The Saline County Re­tired Teach­ers’ As­so­ci­a­tion will be meet­ing at 10 a.m. Thurs­day, Sept. 12, at the Ben­ton First United Methodist Church’s Fel­low­ship Hall, lo­cated at 200 North Mar­ket St. in Ben­ton. All mem­bers are en­cour­aged to at­tend and to bring a fel­low re­tired teacher to en­joy friend­ship and sup­port of ed­u­ca­tion. The pro­gram is sched­uled to be about our in­sur­ance pro­grams.


The Raper Re­union will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Satur­day, Sept. 14, at Mary Ken­nelly Park in Haskell. A potluck lunch will be served at noon. Saline County mem­bers who have ex­pe­ri­enced the death of a fam­ily mem­ber or friend are in­vited to reg­is­ter for the Griefshare pro­gram held at Ben­ton Church of the Nazarene. This non­de­nom­i­na­tional pro­gram fea­tures Christ-cen­tered, bi­b­li­cal teach­ing that fo­cuses on grief top­ics as­so­ci­ated with the death of a loved one. The DVD sem­i­nar fea­tures na­tion­ally re­spected grief ex­perts and real-life sto­ries of peo­ple, fol­lowed by a small group dis­cus­sion about what was seen on the DVD. Many griev­ing peo­ple find they are only be­gin­ning the work of heal­ing when friends or fam­ily have re­turned to their daily life rou­tines. Your be­reave­ment ex­pe­ri­ence may be re­cent or not so re­cent. You will find en­cour­age­ment, com­fort, and help in griev­ing the death of a spouse, child, par­ent, sib­ling, other fam­ily mem­ber, or friend. You will learn how to rec­og­nize the symp­toms of be­ing stuck in grief and that you do not need to live in bondage as a slave to cer­tain emo­tions. You will learn valu­able in­for­ma­tion about fac­ing your new nor­mal in life and re­new­ing your hope for the fu­ture.

Griefshare will be held ev­ery Thurs­day for 13 weeks from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the church, lo­cated at 1203 W. Se­vier St. in Ben­ton. First ses­sion be­gins April 18 and runs through July 11. Home­school Hour is set from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. each Wed­nes­day at Herzfeld Li­brary in Ben­ton. Chil­dren ages 6 and older are in­vited to join ev­ery Wed­nes­day to hang out with other home­schooled kids and com­plete a dif­fer­ent ac­tiv­ity ev­ery week. Mak­erspace, geography, cook­ing, engi­neer­ing and more, are top­ics.

Mak­ing It Wed­nes­day will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. each Wed­nes­day at Herzfeld Li­brary in Ben­ton. Pa­trons ages 18 and older can take an af­ter­noon craft break from their week each Wed­nes­day. A new fea­ture project will be pre­sented each week, but guests are free to ex­press them­selves by go­ing off-project if that is where the week goes. Var­i­ous crafts and tech­niques will be used dur­ing the fea­ture project. All projects will be ap­pro­pri­ate for be­gin­ners with op­tions to add more ad­vanced tech­niques for the more ex­pe­ri­enced crafter.

CONGO MA­SONIC LODGE, lo­cated at the cor­ner of Steele Bridge Road and Thomp­son Dairy Road, will host an all-you-can-eat fish fry the last Satur­day of ev­ery month from April to Septem­ber. Money raised will go to area char­i­ties. The pub­lic is en­cour­aged to at­tend. SALINE ME­MO­RIAL HOSPICE is re­cruit­ing vol­un­teers. TAX PREPA­RA­TION SER­VICES: Cen­tral Arkansas De­vel­op­ment Coun­cil is seek­ing vol­un­teers for its VITA/EITC free tax prepa­ra­tion ser­vices in Saline County. The ser­vice of­fers free elec­tronic fil­ing of fed­eral and state tax re­turns. The ser­vice will be avail­able at Herzfeld Li­brary and the Ben­ton Se­nior Well­ness and Ac­tiv­ity Cen­ter. Laugh Out Loud Book Club will meet from 4 to 4:45 p.m. each Wed­nes­day at Herzfeld Li­brary in Ben­ton.
