Christmas parade to be citywide event in Haskell
About three years ago, staff at the Arkansas
Health Center organized a Christmas parade through the campus for residents in memory of Lisa Presnall, special service coordinator for the center.
This year, through a joint effort with other community partners, the parade will be a communitywide event.
When staff at the center decided to expand the event they learned that members of the Harps’ Community Outreach Committee also wanted to host a similar community event. Individuals from both organizations decided to join efforts, said Alan Eakin with the Arkansas Health Center.
Other sponsors for the event include the city of Haskell and the Harmony Grove School District.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Dec.
5. The theme is “An Oldfashion Christmas.”
Local fire departments are expected to participate in the parade and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on the AHC Fire Truck. The center will also have floats and residents will be participating, Eakin said.
The Harmony Grove High School band will be taking part as well. At the end of the parade route, students will perform near the center, so residents inside the build can hear the Christmas music, Eakin added.
The parade will begin at the Harmony Grove High School parking lot and follow Highway 229 to the Arkansas Health Center campus.
Eakin said the center has received lots of positive feedback after posting the parade flyer on Facebook. The center has also already started receiving float entries.
To participate in the parade, individuals should complete the entry form on the back of the flyer and mail it to the center. Copies of the form are available at any of the parade sponsors.
The deadline to enter is November 26. The cost is $10 and checks should address to “Friends of AHC.”
Judging categories will include floats, vehicles and motorcycles.
