Hornets hammer Hot Springs
HOT SPRINGS — Down by a good margin after one quarter of play to the Hot Springs Trojans Saturday in the ESPN Showcase (broadcasted by ESPN Radio), the Bryant Hornets had a huge second quarter to help Bryant to a 59-45 victory, improving to 4-1 on the season.
The Hornets were down
18-11 after one, but turned on the defensive effort in the second quarter, holding a very talented Trojans team just four points, outscoring Hot Springs 19-4 to take a 30-22 lead at the break.
Bryant would do just enough in the second half to keep and extend that lead, outscoring the Trojans 12-11 in the third quarter and 17-13 in the fourth for the 14-point win.
Bryant senior Treylon Payne had an excellent offensive outing, leading the Hornets with 22 points on 8 of 11 shooting, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range. Payne also led Bryant with seven rebounds in the win.
Senior AJ Jenkins and junior Aiden Adams (3 of 4 from deep) added nine points each, with junior Camren Hunter adding seven and sophomore Khasen Robinson six.
It was Bryant’s hot shooting (22 of 39 for 58 percent and 9 of 15 from three) which led to the victory as the Hornets had 22 turnovers (Hot Springs had 19) and were outrebounded 26-24.
The Hornets are back in action on Thursday when they face the Mcclellan Lions in the Jammin’ for Jackets Tournament at 8:30 p.m. at Little Rock Hall High School.
