5 allegedly steal $50K in firearms
Saline County Sheriff’s Office detectives, with the assistance of special agents of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives have arrested four suspects in connection with the burglary of a Saline County firearms dealer.
Early Wednesday morning, five suspects reportedly broke into the firearms shop and stole more than 40 assorted firearms; including rifles and pistols, with an estimated value of $50,000.
Security camera footage and other evidence located at the store assisted detectives in locating the suspects.
In connection with the incident, deputies arrested Curtis Carter, 19, of Haskell; Tyson Lopeman, 18, of Alexander; and two juveniles. Detectives are still on the lookout for a third juvenile.
Carter and Lopeman are both facing 41 counts of theft, as well as charges for commercial burglary, criminal mischief and criminal trespassing.
Carter was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, fleeing, furnishing prohibited articles and theft by receiving.
According to Lt. Joe Traylor, spokesperson for the SCSO, a majority of the stolen merchandise has been recovered.
