5 al­legedly steal $50K in firearms

Saline County Sher­iff’s Of­fice de­tec­tives, with the as­sis­tance of special agents of the U.S. Bureau of Al­co­hol, To­bacco, Firearms & Ex­plo­sives have ar­rested four sus­pects in con­nec­tion with the bur­glary of a Saline County firearms dealer.

Early Wed­nes­day morn­ing, five sus­pects re­port­edly broke into the firearms shop and stole more than 40 as­sorted firearms; in­clud­ing ri­fles and pis­tols, with an es­ti­mated value of $50,000.

Se­cu­rity cam­era footage and other ev­i­dence lo­cated at the store as­sisted de­tec­tives in lo­cat­ing the sus­pects.

In con­nec­tion with the in­ci­dent, deputies ar­rested Cur­tis Carter, 19, of Haskell; Tyson Lope­man, 18, of Alexan­der; and two ju­ve­niles. De­tec­tives are still on the look­out for a third ju­ve­nile.

Carter and Lope­man are both fac­ing 41 counts of theft, as well as charges for com­mer­cial bur­glary, crim­i­nal mis­chief and crim­i­nal tres­pass­ing.

Carter was also charged with pos­ses­sion of a con­trolled sub­stance, pos­ses­sion of drug para­pher­na­lia, flee­ing, fur­nish­ing pro­hib­ited ar­ti­cles and theft by re­ceiv­ing.

Ac­cord­ing to Lt. Joe Tray­lor, spokesper­son for the SCSO, a ma­jor­ity of the stolen mer­chan­dise has been re­cov­ered.
