Cards fall in OT, ladies snap skid
The Harmony Grove Cardinals (4-7) lost their second straight tilt Thursday, slipping to Cutter Morning Star 66-62 in overtime on the road.
The Cardinals and Eagles played to an 11-11 tie after the first before Cutter took a 28-24 lead into halftime,
The Cardinals shot only two free throws in the opening half, both from Tyler Nuckols, who hit both shots. Nuckols led the Cardinals with 23 points on the night, his third 20-point affair of the year.
Harmony Grove found themselves down 41-40 after three before pulling even in the fourth to force overtime.
Free throws helps the Eagles to the win as they shot eight in the extra period, hitting three. The Cardinals would not attempt a free throw in OT.
For the game, Cutter was 12 for 28 from the charity stripe. Harmony Grove was only 5 for 6 with Nuckols attempting all of them.
Cutter’s Ryan Brown led
all scorers with 29 points in the win.
For Harmony Grove,
Trey Miller followed with 12 — all via 3-pointers. Isaiah Scruggs, who is averaging 9.2 points per game, was held to only two points in the loss. Hayden Britt added 10.
The Cardinals will visit Glen Rose on Dec. 20 to open conference action. Opening tip is set for 8 p.m.
9 threes help Lady Cards to win
The Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals snapped a four-game skid Tuesday, defeating Cutter Morning Star 54-41 behind nine 3-pointers.
The Lady Cardinals led by only one after the first quarter, but broke out with a 19-point showing in the second to lead 32-25 at halftime.
Both teams struggled to score in the third as the Lady Cardinals led 41-33 with a frame to go.
Harmony Grove would snap out of the minor slump in the fourth, scoring 13 to put the game away.
Kailey Southerland led all scorers with 16, followed by Kallyn Sossamon with 11.
The win gives Harmony Grove its third victory on the year as the Lady Cardinals prepare for conference action next week when they visit Glen Rose on Friday. Opening tip is set for 6:30 p.m.
