Cards fall in OT, ladies snap skid

The Har­mony Grove Car­di­nals (4-7) lost their sec­ond straight tilt Thurs­day, slip­ping to Cut­ter Morn­ing Star 66-62 in over­time on the road.

The Car­di­nals and Ea­gles played to an 11-11 tie af­ter the first be­fore Cut­ter took a 28-24 lead into half­time,

The Car­di­nals shot only two free throws in the open­ing half, both from Tyler Nuckols, who hit both shots. Nuckols led the Car­di­nals with 23 points on the night, his third 20-point af­fair of the year.

Har­mony Grove found them­selves down 41-40 af­ter three be­fore pulling even in the fourth to force over­time.

Free throws helps the Ea­gles to the win as they shot eight in the ex­tra pe­riod, hit­ting three. The Car­di­nals would not at­tempt a free throw in OT.

For the game, Cut­ter was 12 for 28 from the char­ity stripe. Har­mony Grove was only 5 for 6 with Nuckols at­tempt­ing all of them.

Cut­ter’s Ryan Brown led

all scor­ers with 29 points in the win.

For Har­mony Grove,

Trey Miller fol­lowed with 12 — all via 3-point­ers. Isa­iah Scruggs, who is av­er­ag­ing 9.2 points per game, was held to only two points in the loss. Hay­den Britt added 10.

The Car­di­nals will visit Glen Rose on Dec. 20 to open con­fer­ence ac­tion. Open­ing tip is set for 8 p.m.

9 threes help Lady Cards to win

The Har­mony Grove Lady Car­di­nals snapped a four-game skid Tues­day, de­feat­ing Cut­ter Morn­ing Star 54-41 be­hind nine 3-point­ers.

The Lady Car­di­nals led by only one af­ter the first quar­ter, but broke out with a 19-point show­ing in the sec­ond to lead 32-25 at half­time.

Both teams strug­gled to score in the third as the Lady Car­di­nals led 41-33 with a frame to go.

Har­mony Grove would snap out of the mi­nor slump in the fourth, scor­ing 13 to put the game away.

Kai­ley Souther­land led all scor­ers with 16, fol­lowed by Kal­lyn Sos­sa­mon with 11.

The win gives Har­mony Grove its third vic­tory on the year as the Lady Car­di­nals pre­pare for con­fer­ence ac­tion next week when they visit Glen Rose on Fri­day. Open­ing tip is set for 6:30 p.m.
