Officer-involved shooting leaves 1 dead Monday
The Bryant Police Department responded to an officer-involved shooting at the Greens Apartment Complex on Monday.
According to Sgt. Todd Crowson, spokesperson for the Bryant Police Department, officers were originally called to the apartment complex for a report of a suicidal person.
At the scene, the subject shot a female officer before being shot and killed by a second responding officer, Crowson said.
The officer who was injured was airlifted to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where she is currently undergoing treatment. Her condition is
unknown at this point, Crowson said. Also, the names of the subject, nor the officer have been released at this time.
Arkansas State Police has taken over the investigation.
In a statement posted to the Bryant Police Department’s Facebook page, the department thanked everyone who has expressed their support for the injured officer.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and all those involved in this incident. We will keep everyone updated of our officer and her condition as we receive it,” according to the statement.
Prior to Monday, the last reported Bryant officer-involved shooting occurred April 2013 when former Bryant Detective Scott Johnson responded to Fred’s Super Dollar on Arkansas 5 for a report of a robbery. During the incident, Johnson was shot by Thomas O’dell before returning fire, killing the suspect. Before the 2013 shooting, Bryant police had not been involved in an officerinvolved shooting since 2000.
