BRYANT – The Bryant basketball teams picked up a pair of 6A Central home victories Tuesday.
The Lady Hornets and Mount Saint Mary Belles went back-and-forth the entire game. But Bryant did enough in the fourth to earn a 49-45 win.
As for the nightcap, it wasn’t near as competitive.
The Bryant Hornets never trailed in their
67-45 win over Little Rock Catholic.
Bryant is now 9-6 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Meanwhile, the Lady Hornets used a balanced offensive effort in the fourth quarter to ease away from the Belles for hard-earned victory.
At the start of the fourth, the score was tied at 31.
Bryant (9-5, 1-1) took the lead for good when Tierra Trotter made a 3-pointer to put her team up 38-35. Later in the quarter, Lady Hornet forward Mckenzie Muse also drained a shot from beyond the arc to make the score 41-37.
Slowly, Mount Saint
Mary (6-9, 0-2) fell further behind as it struggled to find ways to score. With just over 20 seconds left, Bryant’s Ivory Russ made a pair of free throws to put the Lady Hornets up 49-39. The Belles would score a few points in the closing seconds, but the 10-point fourth-quarter deficit was too much to overcome.
Trotter was the gamehigh scorer with 18 while India Atkins had 11, and Muse finished with eight.
For the Belles, 6-foot center, Catherine Althoff led the way with 17.
In the boys contest, Bryant had a good time against Catholic as every player on the Hornet roster got a chance to play en route to a 22-point win.
The Hornets held a double-digit lead at the intermission.
Bryant used a nice effort defensively to hold the Rockets in check. Quality looks at the bucket were
few and far between for Catholic.
