The Benton Parks and Recreation Department is ready to host an event sure to get tails wagging and people moving.

Tails on Trails is set for April 17 at the Riverside Dog Park and is jointly presented by parks and the Saline County Striders. The annual event features a fun run, pets included, and a Yappy Hour event.

Check-in for the fun run will be held at 4:30 p.m. with the race to commence at 5 p.m.

"The idea (for Tails on Trails) came from trying to get everyone interested in our dog park and being active,” said Benton Parks and Recreation Department Special Events Coordinator Grant Watts. “This is a great event for someone to come out with their furry friend/family member and enjoy the Riverside Dog Park and promote exercising and our trails.”

Race participants can register online at https://apm.activecom-munities.com/bentonrec

“We ask everyone to pre-register before the event since we have no secure way to register people on-site at the dog park,” Watts said. “If someone decides they want to register the day of, they can do it online at the same website and show their receipt when they arrive.”

Masks will not be required, but social distancing will be encouraged.

Watts added that a number of food trucks and previous vendors will be on site for the race and the Yappy Hour event. Music will also be provided.

The Benton Animal Shelter Mobile Adoption Trailer will also be on site with a number adoptable animals ready for a forever home.

"As always we want to thank our community for all of their support and interest and letting us provide these events,” Watts said.
